Hearing the news that servers will separated....i wanted to ask you what you think the impact will be on already organized legiond and in general what problems occur with server separation.
EDIT: IF THE SEPERATION IS IP BASED

depends on if its version based or IP based, I guess..
Worst case, they buy US and have it shipped to them, I guess. I really think they SHOULD be able to connect to US servers and vice versa, should they wish to.

It sucks pretty bad for my clan, we are coming from Lineage 2 and have a very large european base, it cuts about 1/3rd of our membership

If there's a server separation based on IP, i r wil b madz. I <3 my Euro buddies. D:
But if it's not I'll just ship them US copies of the game, or.. they ship me an Eu, Idk either way. :/

Yes agreed, 90% of my clan is NA based. Though we have a few Euro's willing to sign up to any NA server. If its ip seperation then well it really kicks us in the face.

I come from an established clan of 5 years, and I'd say about half of our numbers are european. All of them are willing to come with us to the north american servers, but if they make it IP separated, I'm going to be majorly ****ed.
I don't see why they'd do that, though. |

Performance wise I think its for the best for it to be IP based server separation NA/EU. I played Wow and trust me latency can be the difference between owning and getting owned in pvp. If your spiking it can cause problems in pve. Aion wants to provide its players with a quality game and having server separation will enhance ingame performance.
Also having the server/IP separation will bring more of a competitive spirit not only amongst US servers but also against Euro servers. I understand that allot you guys have friends in other games and this will suck if NCsoft chooses to do this but I think collectively it will be for the best. |

If the server has 2000 people online and all are from North America, you would have the same latency as if 1999 were from Euro and you were from North America. I fail to see how it will be any more competetive since its RvR and you dont know your enemy. Its not going to affect anyone's performance except the person who chooses a server further away. With a good ISP and proper tracerouting, there is no reason to lag...I play L2 on a server located in Germany right now and I'm not lagging...124ms ping. Well ncsoft I dont think will make an exception for a few people(if they do decide to separate the NA and EU server. Its also gonna be a p2p game and why would you want a sucky experience when you play? I'm not saying your point of view is wrong. On a game where pvp is dominant you want everything that will enhance your game play to be favorable and the location of your server might help. |

My point all along is only YOUR experience/latency is sacrificed by choosing a further away server, you dont affect anyone else at all just because you have a higher ping. If you're willing to make that sacrifice then why not, its your choice.
WoW's servers suck anyway, but thats to be expected when they run 240 of them...I've gotten 200ms pings on servers 1000km away, and 50ms on servers 4 hours time difference. Also should they region restrict within North America aswell? Because I'm closer to Europe than I am to California. There hasnt been one reasonably valid argument for region restricted servers yet, except for that NA's will be able to ninja Euro's castles when they sleep...but from the new translations it looks like that isnt even possible. And also its not like there arent going to be any Euro servers at all...If you dont care where you play then just join a Euro server, or viceversa for NA. |

I think it's dumb for you to recruit over such a wide area anyway. I've got a guild but its only real-life friends I'll be playing with anyway. Once the game hits, we'll recruit from whatever server we join. Pointless to try and get everyone onto the same server unless NCSoft wants to release the names of servers and their time zones ahead of time so that people can work together to join the same servers. Because -- you know how it goes. People get ready to play and they just join a server that looks good. And when you talk to them, they say "oh im on this server" when you're on a completely different one.
So, the solution here: NCSoft -- release server names and time zones a few weeks ahead of release. Then 'legions' or whatever you want to call them can select a location for their identity that all their members can be sure to pick after installation. |
