In Terms of HP and Defense which are vital in PvP they do fall short, though Sorcerers in Aion have a Ice spell that reduces movement speed, and a earth spell that summons I'm assuming vines around the target hindering movement for a certain time duration.

I for one as I said before am picking sorcerer because I've often played the Mage type class in all MMORPGs unless I was playing with my brothers or friends and I played a healer or a buffer, hence why my first three classes to 75 in FFXI were Blm, whm, and brd, and in WoW my first class to 60 and 70 was mage.

Yes to the original poster:

Both classes will obviously be essential to Guild's and endgame content in the long run, and I'm sure will both have good factors in PvP (Maybe more with Sorcerers), it just comes down to what type of class you like to play and how the Spiritmaster class ends up. If it's like FFXI's SMN, then they will do amazing damage to endgame bosses, etc, and Sorcerers are a guaranteed huge damage class no matter what. Spiritmaster does however add the support side, with buffs and other interesting things I'm sure Aion's Spiritmaster summon's will have~

Im curious to know if the Spiritmaster has any special buffs availble that other classes do not, and are good buffs, because in end-game where you have multiple parties, im assuming that a summoner wont have much use, because if they are in DD mode, a glad or rogue would be better, if they are healing, a cleric would be better, etc... I'm thinking they are like most summoners in other games and are better for solo/small scale play...and thats what my clan is thinking right now, we arent electing to have many of them (only 1 so far)

Of course the summons will offer buffs that a Chanter/Priest won't be able to. They are the summons~ Something such as protection from Fire from the Fire Summon, and probably a Fire nuke that a Sorcerer has. And I'm sure the Water Summon or Spiritmaster themselves will have a Cure/Heal spell or two to make them a suitable healer when needed. Like in FFXI, if there wasn't a WHM around for lvling, you could use a skilled SMN or RDM to play healer for the grind session~ Honestly the Spiritmaster is definitely a class I'm going to play, probably right after my Templar~ It will be a class to be reckoned with for SURE

And Calindor, don't forget every class has unique abilities, don't think that Spiritmasters won't have a big roll endgame. Against big bosses, Gladiators and Assassins may prove weak against some whereas Spiritmaster's abilities and special attacks do good damage, and there will be some fights where a Spiritmaster's damage is 2nd to a Gladiator or Assassin. There will also be fights where none of them can do decent damage, and only a Sorcerer will be able to nuke effectively~

Kill the Master and ignore the pet. They are still cloth wearing pambies.

And as always geek the mage first. Its a rule for a reason.

I've not read about how pets go about when their master takes to flying, anyone who can enlighten me here?

since theres 20% information on every class, and 5% on spirit masters, it's really hard to say which is better suited to what. All we have is speculation when it comes to SM's.. Every other class we have a fair amount of detail.. All we know about SMs is they have 4 elemental pets, no info on pet skills, no info on SM roles - nothing, nada, zip.
I'm going to be a Spirit Master - and If they're half as good as Kentaro seems to think, i will personally give him a cookie. Though in my MMO experience, the simple fact that I've chosen SpiritMaster means they'll be the gimped class.

I'm guessing that because both player and opponent can both fly that as long as the spiritmaster is within range of attack (in flight) that its pet will remain. But, then what in the case of a higher lvl who can fly ganks a lower lvl that can't yet fly--though they wouldn't need to fly in the air and refrain from attacking and just let their pet kill them it's still a possibility worth considering?

but as soon as an opponent (who can fly) flies after them, I don't know what to make of it. I suppose it might dismiss for the event that the battle in midflight travels elsewhere?

IMO Spiritmaster is warlockish char, while mage is... mage. It will be up to devs which is stronger (or equal), I'm pretty sure it wont be known untill game launch as devs are just figuring out themselves

I'm assuming both classes will be balanced in some sort of way, though since Spiritmaster has a summon they will have a smaller HP and Defense pool compared to a Sorcerer because being able to have a damage, healing, and a meat shield summon besides your actual character its common sense they would have a smaller increase of HP and Defense per level though from the videos I've seen Sorcerers might have a smaller HP pool, but of course Spiritmasters will excel over sorcerers in the term of MP similar to Final Fantasy XI because they need the MP for Summons which increase per summon level, Buffs for themselves and their summon and at last their actual magic attacks.

Though if NCsoft takes the World of Warcraft Route Sorcerers will have a rather large MP or equal pool to a spiritmaster, we can't tell at the moment though.

In a PvP situation until we get more information on Spiritmaster. Sorcerer tops them in PvP because they can cast while fly there for they are able to chase someone while dealing damage, while Spiritmasters at the moment basically lose half their class when they fly because their summon either stays on the ground or their summon dismisses which hinders them.

Though I'm just making this assumption based on my MMORPG Background though.

I believe we have as little information on Chanters as we do Spiritmasters, nobody seems to play them.

I chose spirit master, looks like a fun class to play, also so does the Sorcerer, Also will the Spirit Master have attacks of his own to attack with like Dots or actual spells, cause most vids of them I see is they have this energy ball in their hand or something and they send it at the pet to buff them, and I don't think I've actually seen them fight them enemies with spells of their own...

They have their own spells along with their auto-attack from their book or orb which shoots small energy orbs at the monster.

Imo, spiritmaster looks way more interesting than Sorcerer. Yet again, the mage might be more efficient on combat since it's a powerful nuker.
Summoners are usually great for 1vs1 PvPs or to farm alone since you don't really need to deal great damage, just sustain the pet.

Also, the spiritmasters have 4 different summons with different elements, that are used in different situations. Plus those mirrors that float around you dealing damage. Looks pimped...

prefer mage only because i hate having to control pets. in wow i only used pets to eat totems and put enemies in combat. otherwise useless.
