I can't really call that a fix. If you are a pet class, it means you can summon it, hence it's a summoner.

another kind of mirror that does dmg? I remember seeing another mirror-like thing that looked more like a portal that I suppose is a form of teleportation like in WoW?

I has a feeling that this will be like the Mage and the Warlock from Wow, more or less. They both use magic, though the Spiritmaster (Warlock) has more defensive / stamina and also a pet so the mage is at a loss. Then again the Mage has instant spells, high damage nukes, while the Warlock not so many of those but more damage over time.
Gah, what do I know just a wild guess. __________________ People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define Reality. But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"?. Merely vague concepts. Their "reality" may all be a mirage. - Itachi |

In my experience in Shadowbane (The only other massive PvP siege game I've played) the pet class ends up being a little bit less effective in a massive PvP situation. If memory serves me correctly (and it usually doesn't) a lot of the battles ended up being two sides digging in and creating a kind of front line of sorts. The two stay just outside casting or arrow range, with a couple of people going forward to take a pot shot and usually eating a lot of fire and lightning and arrows and throwing daggers and dying almost instantly. In this situation, it's always the ranged damage dealers that shine well, since the further you advance into "no man's land" the more likely you are to eat more magic damage than you can handle.
Generally speaking, the glass cannon class makes a very effective massive PvP and massive PvE character, since there are plenty of warm bodies to protect them, and they generally have the #1 damage output in the game. However, the summoner/pet classes or whatever you want to call them tend to be more universal. They're fairly useful in all situations, they have enough damage to make them useful in massive PvP, enough survivability to make them useful in small scale PvP, and enough buffs, or damage, or off tankingness, or crowd control or whatever they happen to have in that game to make them useful in PvE both small and large scale. So, it depends on what you like. For me, I don't really like settling for second best in the role I play. If I'm going to do something, I'm going to try to be the very best out there. I'm going sorcerer, because if I'm going to do damage, I want to really blow the socks off the Asmodians (That was kind of a cheesy line). Sorcerers looking really good in all the videos I've seen also might have something to do with it..... o_O |

In the vids I've seen, the Elyos girl with the red armor makes Sorcerers seem so cool... But it's not good to judge something just from looks. ^^;
You'll just have to decide what roll would you rather play. If you want to deal lots of damage, choose Sorcerer! You'll be highly wanted for big important party/guild battles! ^^ (As that's the way it is in most MMORPGs.) And plus, in Aion, Sorcerers seem to be more solo-efficient. If you want to be what I'd consider a "backline damage supporter", then choose Spiritmaster! Spiritmasters can heal with the Water spirit, deal damage with the Fire spirit, and defend with the Earth spirit. It's kind of like a jack-of-all-trades, minus melee. And they use orbs! That's always cool. :3 However, I'm guessing that Spritmaster won't be able to solo at lower levels, so stick with your friends! It all comes down to what you want to do. Remember, no matter what you pick, have fun with it! =D *Is sounding really cheesy, but I'm serious!* |

to the original poster-
you know im having the same problem decideding except im also considering being a cleric. I want to try a different role with Aion cus usually I play a hybrid/healer like the Druid in WoW or the RDM in FFXI. I was wondering how summons will work, after summoning a spirit will it slowly drain your MP like in FFXI or will it only cost an initial summoning cost? Futhermore in L2 in order to summon you need crystals and the recast times were really long, does anyone have any idea if this will be the case in Aion? If it is I'll won't be messing with Spirit Master no matter how interesting it is. |

On a side note, I'd like to say FFXI's RDM was hands down THE most exciting class/job I've ever played in an MMO. They were so useful in every aspect of the game, and so fun to be! After leveling my main jobs, PLD, NIN, and WAR, I instantly went for RDMs. With their pimp AF2 hat, sword and shield combo, and all those spells, they were amazingly fun to play. I can kind of see the Chanter taking this role somewhat in Aion. A mix between BRD and RDM is basically what I see Chanter as now, so we'll see how it goes~
To Biblio: I think casting Summons will be an MP related thing, and if it is, it pretty much has to slowly drain, or else final Summons will become too powerful if they never are put away. But they could end up as simply abilities as well. Really, it will determine what type of class SMs will be. If they use MP for Summons, they will be a heavy magic class, like SMNs in FFXI, and if the summon is an ability, look for them to be more like BSTs~ Personally I'd like to see a SMN version ^^ |

In all honesty if you want to play a class play it! :P
Everything exists for a purpose and summoners are very diverse. In some games they dont excel in specific area's but the ability to have a go in all of the different ones makes them stand out. The best advice is to take what you want to play and make it your own. Respectability comes from doing something well, not the method you use in achieving it. __________________ ''VENI, VIDI, VICI'' ~Live for something rather than die for nothing~ ![]() I am a superstition entering the unassailable fortress of forever. Mage, unless and until they fix the balance issues with SM, then I'll go spirits for sure.
