Aion's Limited Collector's Edition selling out fast

The popularity for Aion's Limited Collector's Edition has literally surged since announced one and a half months ago. We're very excited by the demand we've seen for Aion overall, both in our beta test events and in preorders and presales of the game. We specifically have seen incredible demand for the Limited Collector's Edition version of the game, of which we are producing 50,000 copies in North America and Europe. In some cases, retailers in both territories have indeed sold out of their allotments. Wow! You don't hear much about Collector Editions of Games being sold out more than two months from release. This is very nice and it sounds like Aion is really catching on. That being said . . . I am very excited about Aion; its potential and community it is attracting.

Well I'm not surprised that the CE is running low - heck 2-3 days after the preorder program was announced in Europe most prominent stores were already sold out. Amazon was sold out within mere hours of the official statement on the 17th! This is just nuts lol.

Let's hope the game proves worthy of all the excitement. Though given that this game is already more polished in closed beta than most of the others I've flicked through recently have been several months after release, I don't see how bugs or lack of polish will be an issue here. And that seems to be the main reason most recent MMO's are going down the john.

Hehe ah the wonders of PR, to explain what NCsoft was really thinking when they named it that:

Digital - 'el-cheapo'
Limited - 'we may stop selling it...someday'
Edition - 'because it makes it sound more exclusive'
Version - 'uhhh'

But in seriousness, it's just their way of making 10 extra bucks per game by adding ingame items which result in no extra costs, unlike the physical CE box, which probably has a marginal profit due to all those goodies, but is thankfully limited enough that people who were too late to get hold of one are even more tempted to use the ingame store.

Best marketing strategy I've seen in a while...

I just hope gamestop didnt sell more LE's than they had, they've done that to me before

thats why i preordered mine online, unlike the store in which i could walk in and they say "oops dont have any left for your preorder"

online preorder they usually ship out when the stores shipments goes out so no store people to interfere with me getting my collectors edition

plus overnight shipping i have received my game before the game store did with a few of my game preorders
