Oooh thx, this is some intresting stuff!
Intanced and persistend mixed, i like the sound of that! ![]() Like if you need to defeat a boss to end a quest, you get a instanced boss map, so you and your party can end your quest, without having to wait 3 hours till another party finishes it and wait till it respawns. It's a really good idea to keep the godlike armors like they are, so as he says other people can recognize it! :P Damn there really doing everything good, there's nothing i think that could've been made better, but ofcourse we'll see at release. AION LOOKS SO FREAKING GOOD xD So long to wait... >_> -Arc. |

I disagree. Theres nothing I hate more than having really great armor that looks like a pile of crap, or is bright yellow, or something along those lines. I think there should still be a full choice. Ken says people want others to notice their hard work... well then DONT CUSTOMIZE IT. Those of us who don't care and just want armor that looks good on our character can. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm sorta disappointed with "ganking" the image of another armor and using it for yours. I mean, yeah it sounds cool and all, but I dunno. You can start out at level 1 and just change your armor to look like a hulking bringer of dramatical reverbs? Just takes the fun out of collecting cool looking armor to wear around when you're not fighting.
(I'm a style harlot, fyi. I'll wear the worst crap in the game, as long as it looks hot.) Also, I like instances for when you need to fight harder encounters... Like end-game bosses to advance the storyline and what not. Random r-tards can run into the room and totally screw you up. Not to mention, hopefully if they add in bosses you must fight (non-instanced) to advance the storyline quests, they won't give them good loot. This way, they won't be on farm status 24/7 and will be available for questing only. Just my thoughts, but I'm sure I'll adjust, or just not do much PvE encounters. :] |

Well, no one has mentioned any limitations on the skin swapping, but it might be limited. For instance, you can only use a previous level skin, or maybe only something you are able to equip. Also, from what I understand, melding the two together destroys the one you took the skin from, so depending on HOW good it is, it might not be worth the money to buy it just to have that style for a few levels until you upgrade again.
Hard to tell for sure at this point.

Yes, as knite said, there are limitations in the system to prevent the things you mentioned. More details on it will be revealed later in beta.

Hee can't wait!! I would guess that you can only obtain the look of a piece of equipment at your own level or below... An example would be when I got my better shield in LotrO, I was all excited because of the better stats, but when it was equiped it looked like crud! My lower level shield was elven styled with jewels on it for pete's sake! See, now it would have been nice to keep the elven look but get the better stats.

Hey congrats on you first big News post Cynthe!
I think the way it will be is you can only alter the design to that of a previous armour/weapon that you have purchased, with maybe the possibility of any lower level skins, although i think even that would be too easy then.

In my opinion it isn't only for the whole "I worked hard for my armor I want players to see it" fact. I think the main factor is that a high level player who obtained god-like armor could change the image of it's armor to give it a low level look. Then players think the player has crappy armor but in fact, the player has very good gear and fools the player into thinking that the player is wearing low armor.
It could be positive but I don't want to fight someone and get owned when I thought he had normal armor and I was on equal status. |
