Remember e3 2006?

Back at e3 2006 visitors to NCsoft's booth, specifically the AION section, got to play our favorite unreleased MMO in a limited virtual area. It had many different environs and mobs to show off and wowed even the most skeptical of critics with its technical prowess. The area wasn't scrapped, it's still part of the game (albeit a bit changed). According to resident translator jameinkaiser, who's translated an article about it, the zone's name is...

South Rakhan

I just finished watching the last, third, part of the video. I'm stoked for AION all over again. The cinematic boss fight, the area changing what it looked like because you won, it's all damn amazing. I hope, I pray, that AION does turn out how the e3 2006 demo played. And if I doesn't, well...I'd really like to have a copy of that demo for nostalgia purposes.

Well, demo had flaws, like abnormal animations and physics, the current version is prolly better.

But the current version doesn't have physics-affected treasure boxes pop out of killed mobs, doesn't have the rune casting bar, and may not have events that change the world.

the 'area changing' is actually supposed to be a flashback into the past i think... before the place became a ruin it was once a peaceful zone or whatever.. i did mention that in my translation.. right? as for the rune casting bar, it's still there if u look at it. instead of the weird devanagari casting bar now we have a standard looking casting bar with translucent lord of the ring-ish rune texts

Well, let's look at those problems into detail, starting off with, Aion was eventually going to turn out like this. It was sooooo incomplete in the old version:

1) Physics-affected treasure boxes... I'm sure they had a very good reason for getting rid of this, since it seems like it's still possible. That's the type of complicated idea that could kill a lot more than it could help.
2) The rune casting bar just might be a customizable thing. It's just a bar, lol, I'm sure you can do whatever you want to it in the options. Also, as Jamie said, it's actually still there, inside the current bar.
3) Events that change the world... o.O was Aion ever supposed to have any?

Events that changed the world so that no two servers were going to be identical. That was a feature that they touted back in 2006. We wern't sure at the time how they would do this. We assumed it would be the mob spawns and the abyss but whether they will continue with this feature, I dont know. They already removed the "weather affecting spells" feature that alot of people were excited about.

Hmm I can't recall the link but I'm sure someone will dig it up.

Yes, player actions were supposed to affect the world and each server's world would be slightly different because of this.

;_;

EDIT: Oh yeah, the weather system too. It was an awesome idea. Sucks they took it away.

I very much doubt that they took that out. This seems like something that would come along with the Abyss to me.

I'm talking about real storyline-based world-changing events. Like on one server **** blows up and the area is changed forever, on the other the area was saved in time and nothing happens. I think the Aion team had something like this in mind, but I'm not sure. Maybe I'm making things up, I dunno.

Well I'm not sure if they ever had it working to begin with, and if they did they haven't said a word about it since. I can find the press release that makes me think this way, if you want.
