Greetings and Salutations, an Introduction from NCsoft NA (Austin)

Hello everyone,

If you would be willing to bear with me, I'd like to take a moment to make my introduction to the AionSource community. My name is Charles 'kieron' Dane and I am NCsoft Austin's Community Relations Manager for Aion. It is my responsibility to support the Aion community for North America, something that I am very much looking forward to.

A quick overview of my background, I have been around the MMOG industry for over ten years. I started out as a Counselor in the Ultima Online volunteer program and eventually co-managed the Seer program. This was followed by a brief stint managing the EVE Online volunteer event team before returning to UO to manage the Event Moderation team.

My time with the UO EM program introduced me to interaction with the community in a way that I had not experienced before. Not only was I spending time in-game with players and running events, I was also on the forums and in IRC. It’s not hard to lose track of time simply chatting with the community about the game or events, gathering feedback or shooting the breeze. I fell in love with the interaction and wanted to do more.

An opportunity presented itself in January of 2004. The Community Manager position for EVE Online opened up, I was recommended for the position, applied and was accepted. The following four years were an experience that I will never forget. I had a great time with the game and company, but most of all the community. There were some lessons to be learned along the way, but I looked forward to the start of each and every work day.

After leaving EVE, I investigated a number of opportunities but nothing captured my attention like Aion. A visually and aurally stunning game with a rich game history, a close-knit development team and a growing player community; Aion was everything I could hope for from a new project and more. I am honored to be a part of this community, both as a player and a developer. It will be my pleasure doing all I can to support the community and game.

I can't say I have had anything to do with Kieron Gillen. I was re-reading Steven Brust's Five Hundred Years After when I joined the Ultima volunteer program and needed a nickname. I chose Kieron based on a previous character reference (a somewhat lofty choice) and dropped the capitalization to differentiate it from others. As funny as it sounds, I've actually gotten so used to the name that I do answer to it.

Hello Kieron, and thanks for introducing yourself. I think we're all relieved to finally hear something from Austin, and it's good to have someone with a long history in the industry .
