try media player classic, im assuming you dont have the codec required to watch it, mpc is meant to have some codec pack with its installation.

VLC media player - Overview

VLC Media Player that can be downloaded from the above link will also play the video.

actually this helps... and the format is actually avi <3

The CONTAINER is .avi, the codec is XviD. Heck, even WMP should open XviD, but VLC and MPC will too. And CoreAVC, for people with slow PCs.

SMPlayer will play it aswell. (pretty much the same as VLCplayer)
