As the leader of the fictional "WoW doesn't wow me, in fact I think it looks like 2 year old scribbles brigade" I'm not liking all these comparisons. In fact they make me cringe, but I know better. I just hope they don't dissuade the other Anti-wow legionnaires out there. Overall, wonderful response so far though.

"the game is similar to WoW because WoW is a good game, and its millions of players will be able to quickly and comfortably slip right in to Aion — and once they're there, they'll find a number of vast improvements."
I didn't really like this statement at all ;p

To be honest, the comparisons to WoW don't bother me.... I played wow quite a bit, and while the art direction is quite... lets say "boring"... the game play was pretty good endgame (not amazing, but it kept you wanting to do more with your friends). I think other developers just hope to accomplish what wow did: Make a game that is just fun to play, with enough to do that everyone wants to come back for more, even when they're not leveling or raiding. And that is admirable. They want to make something that is equally as successful as WoW, and for that i cannot fault them.... If you really read into what they're all saying, it's more about trying to recreate the FUN factor that WoW has had for many people over the years... not so much the actual gameplay or visuals. Try not to get upset about that, because any developer that wants to take cues from successful endeavors is at least keeping an eye on trying to make their audience enjoy their gaming experience =)
Anyhow, regardless of what i say, the anti-wow-fanboys will still rant *LOL* -Sokar |

I think getting upset about the comparison with WoW is unwarranted. WoW must have done something right in order to be as successful as they are. And unfortunately, since there are no other game that comes close in comparison to WoW (in terms of gameplay and whatnot), WoW becomes the measuring stick for every game out there, at least until one that beats it. Also, considering that almost every gamer out there have at least heard of WoW, if not at least played it, I'm not surprised that they decided to mention its name. Whether we like it or not, WoW will always be the measuring stick for every game out there until something new comes along. AoC and WAR (even though it have not been thoroughly reviewed yet) have been compared to WoW, I'm not sure why anyone would expect anything different for Aion.
Was it a great idea to mention WoW? It's really difficult to say since some people are turned off by the comparison, but for the most part, many people liked some aspects of WoW, just not so much the community or the path the devs decided to take. But I doubt many people expect Aion to be a WoW-clone, because if it was, there would be no point in playing it. |
