That is open to debate... whilst there were a lot of players on there, in no way shape or form was it *that* popular.

And i was there from the very beginning of closed beta (when the EU test sessions wouldnt break 200 for the 1st few months)

And even going off *initial* box sales it looks like Aion (in beta) is stomping TR into the ground.

And yes i am mourning the loss of TR quite badly right now........

Well I've never played TR, probably bacause it didn't appeal to me. On the other hand, NC does save some money from this, I heard TR was going down the drain anyway.

But what exactly was the problem with the game? Mustn't've been lack of publicity, even in this hell hole of a coutry I live in I'm sure I saw a couple of commercials for it :X

I'm glad to hear that the game is going to be f2p after the 10th of January. I enjoyed the game actually, parts of it were really fun, mainly the base sieging/defending. However, I just couldn't really justify the money because I heard the end game content was lacking. Now I will definitely pick this game up as a time filler after it becomes f2p.

I did try the Tabula Rasa beta, and it was fairly fun to play. A lot of content was missing (when I first joined the game I imagined huge spaceports and cities and stuff, then I realised it was mostly military outposts out in the woods lol), but it had a lot of potential. I guess potential just wasn't enough. I guess this means they're covering their costs for new games such as Aion.

It's not F2P. It's free for current subscribers until the end of February when the servers will be shut down. That's why they are given these people Aion preview event slots..

You misunderstand: the servers will go offline ( i.e. it will end ) one month later : 28th of february 2009.I'm trying to find out if destination games ( TR's company at the start ,the actual development studio ) is still a seperate entity or if it's fully incorporated into NCsoft. If it is still seperate TR intellectual property ( name and content ) could be debatable .

Folks are suggesting to get DG off NCsoft's hands and do a "rolling restart " or a restart of TR.

Mind you : if I was an independent company I'd steer clear of NCsoft now. They first nuked auto assault and now TR.When you're a MMO-developer you wouldn't want to have anything to do with those guys . Especially considering they did so after only one year .

auto assualt never got off the ground. i think they announced within 2-3 months that they would be shutting down the servers. NCsoft isn't the only company shutting games down. Fury was shut down very quickly when is was found to be a flop. Given those games were fairly poorly developed. Tabula rasa on the other hand that was a surprise. the corporates have been going on for several months about how they didn't plan to shut down TR. Once RG pulled out it seems like everything started to fold up. This really gave a shock to all the COH players. we only number 130k-150k where TR had 80k currently. I'm sad to see TR go, it had it's problems but the core was strong and there was a lot of places that it could go. I think that if TR had recieved some of the reinvestment that COH has in the past few months we wouldn't be reading this at all. That said if i had to choose i'm glad that COH got the pick.

I don't think this means anything bad for AION. If anything the devs from TR that are tied to NCsoft will be dispersed to the COH and AION dev teams. It's sad to see TR go, it's sad to see any sci-fi game bite the dust since they are having such a rough time in this part of the industry but hopefully it traslates in some way into a better AION and COH experience.

when i played TR the majority of the players didnt give a **** about Aion and that was at the start of the game when they had loads of players.
smart move by NC trying to sway their thoughts with promises of frees.

Right? That's alot of extra bonus you get. To much if you ask me but I guess that's a good thing. Also kitsunegirl it's not like AION is going to be expensive. Being that it's cheaper then other plaync monthly subscriptions at only $13.88, it's easily able to be paid for.
