The email by NCsoft also closes all doors with regard to any solution put forward to keep the game running. It's quite apparent the franchise has been written off by accountants already.
Credibility of NCsoft takes a nose-dive which is hard to believe as they were saying - not months but weeks before this decision- there was no way they'd close down TR,it being "one of our flagship-products and a triple A title " , "It's not going to be closed " etc. Those are quotes from the same persons who are now trying to justify the decision. |

Face one thing: TR was never running well (I'd say even Galaxies or Vanguard are doing better.) I've never seen any server as "FULL". "MEDIUM" was the best, but usually half of the servers was on "LOW". I've been in TR since the beta. Yes, it started out good, but soon I could run around in the countryside for hours without meeting anyone. No matter what time I was on. It just didn't fly. And at that point even I would simply shut it down before it wastes even more money.
I have cancelled my TR subsription and unistalled the game. I will simply... get over it and move on. Ultimately, it's just a game. It's nothing really important. I've seen people scream about boycotting NCSoft over TR. Heck, I've seen people coming up with "ideas" to save TR. Ideas which are... well... 100% unrealistic, to put it nicely. I've been a TR player since the beta, but I WILL check out Aion. And if I like it, I will keep it. |

They're not even examining options to sell the franchise or to merge servers or anything to keep the game running . They're cloaked in utter silence , there is noone at NCsoft who has the guts to go to PlanetTR and talk to those players . They basically s**t on those players . |

Sell the franchise to who? 100 million USD, or what was the development cost? Who's going to buy this? With the current lack of any impressive gain from it? Especially given how the economy is right now?
If I had the money and the backup... Honestly? I wouldn't buy it. It's dead. After only one year... Well, if it's Triple A, why isn't it selling? 100 billion South Korean Won development costs (over 7 years) and... some 4 billion Won profit in the first 6 months. That's not what I call "successful". That's not "triple A" (plus the game being extremely repetitive, the only real innovation was the setting, and there it'll get blasted by Stargate Worlds -which I expect to be around after a year, no matter how bad it may be, it has the franchise to back it up- and The Old Republic.) That's 8 billion after one year. That's 56 billion after 7 years. 14 years to get even? How's about... no way in hell? Nobody would go with that, sorry. Only a fool would. If I had shares of NCSoft and they would continue with it... I'd sell right away. Who says they'll terminate Aion in a year? Frankly, how would you know? Are you sitting in NCSoft's upper echolon? I misunderstand why they're mad? I don't think so. Most of them have no idea about management. Most of them have never been in an executive position. This is a management decision. It doesn't sell as expected. It's actually a resource hog and the profit from it is... well, hardly impressive. How would you know the management hasn't examined options? I'm pretty sure they have, then they added everything together and... oh look, it doesn't pay off! It might even turn into a bigger loss on the long run. Plus, add all the competition it'll have. And if it doesn't hit off within a year, then... really, why keep it alive? Wait for how long? Another year? Just to see it still not work as expected? Or even remotely close to that? No one from NCSoft has to talk with those few players. And I'll tell you why: they are few. A small number. Irrelevant. That's how it is. Yes, I know there's this "save TR" campaign, but... their numbers won't impress anyone. Even if they would have gotten the amount of people they actually wanted it would still have been unimpressive. What are 2,000 players? Not much. Not in today's MMORPG market. Not in the big business. And now the "save TR" campaign has ~300 registered users with maybe... 10 active. Why would NCSoft talk with them? What for? To appease a few hundred who would bring... a handful of thousand dollars? That's not enough, not nearly enough. Now, before you say "that's arrogant!": welcome to private business. No bailouts for game companies. The majority of the players will simply shrug and move on. Honestly, I was wondering when TR would be shut down. The game was empty most of the time. That's how it is. Yeah, it's a pity, but you know... So what? TR had it's chance (12 months is more than enough.) It didn't work. Next please. Last edited by Takekaze; 12-12-2008 at 01:34 PM.. |

You should apply for a job at NCsoft. You obviously agree totally with their decisions .

OK, when did they merge servers ? Where did you read they were looking for any buyer for the franchise ? They did nothing. Quote:

in short: I suggest you never take a job in PR , you'd be even worse than that guy from NCsoft ( and thats saying a lot ) . |

Actually we had the lead designer (Dev_Leilo aka Susan Kath) tell members of one of the TR forums (planetTR) just 2 days before the official announcement that TR wasnt going to be closing.... because that was what she knew herself. Trust me, according to the TR team this was a SHOCK.
Hell, Avatea (EU Community Manager for TR) only found on the Friday of the announcement at about 4pm GMT (and so it would have been around the same time as the people on the US side)..... |

Well, I'm only going to add this one:
If TR is so "triple A"... WHERE ARE MY PAUS? Where are the Powered/Personal Armor Units for my characters? PAUs were promised in February/March. The only thing we saw of them was a model of one, still in a transport box, and that same model appeared on several bases. So, where's my PAUs? It's December. Where are they? Hmm? Adding that model to the few larger bases took them ages. And ultimately... no PAUs. Hmmm... Yeah, triple A indeed. I guess adding Garriot's Sojus capsule was more important for the devs. Giving useless veteran rewards (why are we receptives even getting GREEN berets? We're not soldiers, we're receptives, we should be getting white or even black berets, all the receptive liaison officers wear white uniforms) was more important. By August plenty of people had reached level 50, yet... there was nothing to do for us. I had my lvl 50 Grenadier and... yeah, I had her. Great. 50 and useless due to the lack of content. I wasn't even through all the maps. The whole content invasion was far too late. By that time a lot of people had already stopped playing. And that's not really the management's fault anyway. That one goes straight to the devs who came out of hibernation too late. But really, where's my PAU? |
