The problem with vanilla WoW's PvP rankings was that rank != skill in any way whatsoever.. all it meant is you had no life and farmed BG's all day, or had friends log in your char to do it for you.

Even if you lost the BG's, it helped.. you just got more if you won.

This won't be the case here, in order to get AP, you have to be a good player. The more you get, the more of a target you become.. the longer you stay at a high rank without upgrading your items, the more likely someone who did upgrade their items will be more competitive and able to get more points than you simply because they are stronger and don't have to be so defensive.

Casuals with skill (good K/D ratio) can still compete, it will just take longer.

Sounds to me like the perfect system.

You know its pretty much impossible for live events to be staffed by the dev team in a MMO thesedays.. but this ranking system basically lets players be the uber non-scripted event that you would expect to find in one..

You should expect to need a group to kill one of these guys, thats part of the epicness about it, otherwise its just a zerg ganking of no skill. And high ranks should be forced to go into the abyss with a group/army for protection during the times their abilities are on cooldown.

Even if I never get to be one of the big guys, it will be fun forming a group up to take them down.

Until someone gains most of their armor, then they can just use their guardian form and farm pve so that they can spend AP points and remain the same rank, since it's K/D and minimun AP required for the rank.

I've read all this and I am still confused on 2 points.

1. Are there abyss rank requirements to purchace some abyss gear - i.e. do you need to be ranked #1 or whatever to buy the "abyssal broadsword of leetness" (sorry don't know the names of the top gear)?

2. Did those Koreans really say that 50 of them couldn't take down the #1 ranked guy in guardian form? And people think that is ok?

1.) There's no rank requirement for buying gear, only level requirements. If you have the abyss points (and the required level) you may purchase the item.

2.) What you're referring to is the Guardian Transformation that only 30 people can obtain on the entire server (15 on each side). The highest ranked players are given access to a transformation seed which turns them into a mini-boss. The thing is, both sides are given some of these so it's balanced.

Think of it as a reward for being in the top .01% of your server. They aren't invincible by any means. If you work together appropriately they can be killed. Guardians also counter guardians, which is part of the reason for giving both sides an equal amount. Here's a video of guardian transformation:

all those thingsare competitions in thier own way, sports... typically play against another team, board game, arnt u playing with 1 or more people to win and wel swimming,, ok exception to the rule, but still in a sport setting its a competition whose the fastest..

i like pve too, and think it tkes both pvp and pve to make a game great, but the developers have not been shy to say that the focus in this game is pvp not pve, even tho they try to incorporate pve into the pvp to make it fun for everyone, kudos to them

Dont 5 Star Officers get the first stage of the guardian transformation? There are 100 spots for 5star officer, 30 for general, 10 for great general, 3 for Commander and 1 for the top commander.

That would mean 144 guardians on each faction, not 30.

Check 1.5 notes... this game is designed to be more pvp friendly than most games you are used to. Also most MMOs are a time-sink... I have very little free time for gaming, but for just casual relaxing gaming... this game may not be for you. Not all games appeal to every person, I love this system personally because it gives you something to strive for, even though I will never make it into the top 4.

I would just like to say that crying dont lead to no where and has no reason for it.

couple simple facts:

1. If this game offer great reward as Guardian form and only top of top players could reach it then let them
2. it took so much time and effort to actualy be best of bests and have every top single piece of equip, i dont think no one could collect all in less then a year hardcore gaming,so theres a lot of time
3. Person who reach Guardian form first prolly would be big advantage in mass raids, but no one force u to fight vs him
4. Form last only 20 mins,do u really need be noob and go on him every time or u could just do something else and return back when he is out of it?
5. that person wont be always Online,its not robot u get ur chance as well to kill too.

... and so on.

In my opinion if game offer this thing why cry about it ? just play on and deal with it, if u dont have it you are not best of bests so deal with it.

Anyone confirm if its 144 guardians total or something like, need to be least 100th-31st place to be 5star, 30th-11th for general 10th-4th great gen, rank 3 and 2 get commander and rank 1 gets supreme? All while having the minimum points for that position?


To me it looks like it could be either way, although everyone says 144

Unfortunately I haven't been able to play Aion. But I would assume the abyss is rather large... So people in transformations shouldnt be too much of an overwhelming issue.


(I don't totally agree on transformations, they don't seem necessary... The max ranks of the game (in place of transformations) could be given a: weapon.....that is exclusive to the highest ranked person..that fades away if you lose your rank..or a Buff..that is only given to the highest ranked person....and also fades away..maybe even a full set of armor, that is only given to the person of that rank...)

I like the whole AP system.... and ranks are a really nice touch.

I believe someone who deserves a reward is someone who has skill, not someone who plays 24/7.

The notion that the higher ranked players will want too take fewer risks and not to lose life/rank seems in a real world scenrio like how should be, I mean no one wants to lose generals or kings on the battlefield however a few hundred grunts getting thrown to the proverbial lions ain't gonna matter much.

I'm sure the system if found faulty will be refined over time, I myself just want a cool title not really caring for flexing my e-peen, did manage rank 12 in vanilla WOW and yes not really skill that mattered just time invested although I didn't do much premade grouping so I should have extra kudos for attaining it mainly in pugs :P

OT: less that ten mintues till I downloaded the game, woot..let me the fook in!
