Achieving higher ranks also allows you to purchase specific armor only available to players who have achieved that specific rank. Also to the person who posted that they think this will ruin the game because no-lifers will rule the game, I highly doubt that will be the case. Something very important to keep in mind is that only the players with the best kill to death ratio can achieve the highest ranks with the player from each race on each server who has the single best kill to death ratio gaining the highest rank. This means that as long as a player with a very good kill to death ratio gets enough points which will admittadly take time, they will get the best ranks. About it taking a bit of time to build up enough points; I personally think it is good because you should have to work at something for a while to be rewarded with the best rewards. Also it will keep players who reach the max level occupied for sometime afterwards working to get a ranking. With all this being said though it is worth mentioning that it will be interesting to see how they categorize kills, because if a person only needs to be in a groups and within x range a group member who scores a killing blow to get credit for a kill or if a player only needs to have healed a friendly player who scores a killing blow I think you will see healing classes and specifically Clerics rise to the top very quickly because they will be able to likely fend off oponents much easier and keep themselves alive much longer in tight situations where, say, a non-healer would not be able to. This would lead to healing classes being able to achieve very good kill to death ratios much easier than non-healing classes.

Seems like some numbers there don't make sense.
![]() There aren't any trends you can simply pick out there from one level to the next. Like row 9 in the points lost when killed, only 5 more than the previous level, then the next is a jump of 524? |

I cannot believe they're using Commander in Chief for a PvP ranking...

Creating this ranking system by random is not even the biggest problem. With more points gained than lost on a given level gives a chance to exploit the system (arranged killings, point farming) not to mention it takes away everything that strategic and challenging and makes nearly impossible later on for lowlvl chars to gain ranks. At the very least, they should swap the points gained and lost upon killing and dying, that would be a start. Most problems would be solved by that. Until then, there's no really a point to change anything else. __________________ ![]() Last edited by lyankyj; 01-23-2009 at 10:12 AM.. |

Actually the ranking system makes sense to me as it is (other than some randomness of pts lost and to a lesser extent gained at certain ranks). You should be able to gain more pts than you lose at lower abyss ranks (AR) per K or D, because at lower ranks you will be at a disadvantage. This system can be abused at lower ranks, but as you get higher and higher ranks there will be more diminishing returns for abuse (not to mention the fact that gaining pts like this will put you at lower status than others b/c of higher D ratio than those who legitimately gained their ranks (unless its another account used explicitly for gaining pts for a different account but let's not go there)). If the points that you lose or gain are even at lower ranks, then it's much more likely that you will never catch up to higher ranking people. You only lose more than you gain per K or D at last 4 ranks which really drive the competition at the top.
Of course I'll probably never get to top 4 ranks but oh well . . . at least this system will hopefully let me experience guardian transformation. ![]() |
