assassins...
nothing but short buffs with long cooldowns for most paper thin armor almost all attacks must meet a certain condition in order to hit decently(location of attack, rune carving lvl, is opponent poisoned or stunned?) thousands of keys hardest to level 1-25 no cc of any kind pretty much screwed when 2 strong mobs come at you __________________

Ranger... simply put: If you use your skill at the wrong time, essentially you screwed yourself over, especially if it's against a class like a temp, sorc, or another ranger

tl;dr
There should be two versions of this thread poll. . . . One for Melee, so everyone with melee mains there can vote up melee classes and circle jerk that those are the hardest. Obviously another for ranged, to further the my class is hardest circle jerk. All classes take specific player skill, knowledge, and experience to be really good. But those damn gladiators? FACEROLL haha |

Don't think anyone can accurately say which class is the hardest etc until they have tried them all to a certain level.
But even without doing that I can say range classes have it much easier in pvp. And of all range classes ranger wins lol. I think SM is much harder to play with. Its a different story for PVE though, also depending on the situation, therefore this thread is just too broad. I mean, in a party I think Temp's got a pretty tough job, dps just shoots away. |

When I play my sorc I just cheese my way through a few tried and tested rotations. 9/10 times it works. If it goes wrong well I can cc again and get the hell out anyway pretty easy.
On my glad virtually every fight is an uphill struggle but the payoff can be a lot more satisfying. Not sure which takes more 'skill' per se but on the glad I have to try a lot harder. Thats 1v1. In group play I'd say ranged classes don't have it so easy and the players need much more situational awareness. |

Whoever voted for ranged.. wtf? srsly? I'll comment on the two classes that I play.
I'd have to say the hardest to master would be the assassin, due to rune building (not difficult once you get used to it), stigma line-ups, and the need to watch for certain buffs to be activated in chat, along with watching the surrounding area. As far as stigmas go, with what is needed in general PvP, we cannot have access to our end line abilities. Until level 34, everyone and their mom can see us, even if we stealth up (34 is when we get advanced stealth). Even then, the "random" stealth timer is utter crap. 30 seconds - 45 seconds, with a 1 minute re-use timer, and lowers our run speed. It sucks, but more or less useful to a small degree. I would rather have stoneskin ![]() Once we get to a higher level, we do have ways to perma-stun people, but even that requires a bit of, "effort", or rather, mistakes the enemy makes. Such as using a melee attack (or using a pet) when we pop Focus Evade (so we can use whirlwind or counterattack). At my current level, attacking sorcs and rangers is just utter suicide, and to some degree, spiritmasters as well, unless they actually know how to play one. I would think this applies to other melee toons as well, but in order to do well with the sin, you need above average gear (blue-con / gold con abyss gear), and a massive crap ton of scrolls, food, drink, potions of every type, etc.. Spiritmasters are easy, but takes a certain mentality to play one effectively (as in, being able to multitask well). Ton easier than my assassin for sure. |

Of course, pre level 40 they have a rough time. As for rangers being the hardest... nah. Easiest to kite with, more solo-friendly PvP wise than any other class. Does just as good in groups as any other. It's shocking this is the highest voted? Too much e-peen stroking going on here methinks. As for sorcs being the hardest... nah but they're difficult in some situations despite the fact that everyone thinks they're the "loloneshot" class. Generally, this does not happen even with a 4k DP unless you're several levels lower. The only exception being Rangers and Assassins getting ganked with Aether's Hold combo which is 37+ Sorcs. I think people are getting skewed views from ganking events. SM's are the I-Win of PvP currently, so nah. Fear + DoT spam = gameover. Just as easy to kite with as Sorcs, perhaps slightly easier but slower kill rate. TBH I would say Gladiators and Assassins are the most difficult to play with effectively. Gladiators moreso because they don't have the inherent advantage of lolstunlock. Assassins are only really difficult to use in big group PvP settings. No problems PvE wise with my Assassin, not much into PvP yet coz I'm a Sorc at heart. It's cute to see how everyone who uses a melee class automatically eliminates all ranged classes from their choices though. Really, you make it all seem to easy. PvE wise I will agree with you, it is quite risk free if fighting only 1 or 2 mobs at any given time. But I truly encourage you to level up a Sorc to my level and see how well you do solo PvPing. The only class I kill pretty easily are Rangers and Gladiators. Templars simply survive my initial burst DPS with half their HP remaining and AoEL activated, now I'm on cooldowns and as good as dead. Assassins lolstunlock and Aerial Shackle me and I lose. Clerics and Chanters albeit are a tad easier but if I can't get a specific chain of skills to go off consecutively then they heal and usually I eventually die due to this. SM's, as everyone knows, just win everything. Sooner or later, when all of you whiners are actually at a respectable level, you will see how much other classes begin to become formidable, particularly Templars which are just stupid hard to kill. If you are under level 40, you have no idea what you're talking about. Last edited by Karma; 11-06-2009 at 12:03 AM.. |

In endgame Glads are actually designed around "lolstunlock" as you put it. They use a greatsword (for faster attack speed) in tandem with multiple ASpd boosts to reduce time between attacks, and stack PCrit for as many crits as possible. The end result of this is that a Glad can often crit more than once every 2-3 seconds, which results in "knockdown-lock" for many opponents. It's something that you won't see much of until the higher levels when Glads attain ASpd weapons/gloves/scrolls and have high Crit to match it. Sins I can agree are more difficult to use in mass PvP - they're best used in a situation where you can get the drop on an enemy at unawares, preferably 1-on-1. Their perma-stealth and ultra-fast attacks are two advantages that other classes don't have, though, giving them some unique benefits that are worth trying out in groups. At endgame they're among the most powerful out there, for the reasons specified above about Glads (just replace knockdown-lock with actual stunlock). |
