Aion's PvP is like EVE. That's why the WOW kids hate it.
The more I think about it, the more I realize this game's PvP is nothing like WOW, and so much like EVE.
Reasons: There is a death penalty. Dying costs you something. In EVE when you die you lose your ship. In Aion, you lose AP or XP/Kinah, depending on whether it was PvP or PvE. The death penalty is one of the things EVE players LOVE. Being able to know you set your opponent back AND benefited is a great feeling. Classes are not balanced 1v1. In WOW they have tried very hard (and failed) to balance to game around 1v1. In Aion, they balanced the game around group v group. EVE follows similar suit. In most 1v1 EVE fights, there is a guaranteed winner. Every class in this game, just like ships in EVE, have a role. Winning a fight is about playing your role correctly. This game is NOT FAIR. This again, is something EVE players love. This is the main one the WOW kids complain about. If you only take one thing out of this post, let it be this: If you find yourself in a fair fight, you did something wrong. This game has tons of ways of making the game unfair. Consumables, extreme level advantages, no artificial limit on the amount of players one side can bring, not able to see opponent's level, attacking while engaged against NPCs, not balanced around 1v1, stealth, tons of CC, ect. ect. You as the player have so many tools to gain the clear advantage against the other side that if you find yourself in a fair fight, you screwed up. There is nothing wrong with organizing balanced fights, hell they are already in the game, they're called duels. But if you honestly expect to have balanced fair fights in the Abyss without organizing them, you blatantly have failed at understanding human nature and Aion. This game is not like WOW. It is like EVE. The more you play it, the more you realize it. It rewards the longer playing players. It is not fair. It can be harsh. It is team based. It is basically nothing like WOW, so if you want it to be WOW 2.0, either quit or continue to come to the abyss solo so we can farm you. (Or I guess you know, just don't come to the Abyss and play PvE since you can probably handle the small amount of times you'll actually be ganked rifting.) Thanks! So what you're saying is, the "WoW kids" like fun, competitive, fair fights, and the "Aion Pros" like to kill people 20 levels below them and gank people 10v1.
Sounds about right. Goddamn WoW kids. __________________

@Death Penalty: I agree and like, would be nice to get one of their items as a drop (considering you are comparing to eve), I havent reached teh Abyss yet but I doubt this is the case.
@Balance: I dont think any MMO can have true balance, I think the only game that will come close is GW and this isnt classed as an MMO depending on who you talk to. Limited skills for each battle mean the actual skills are more powerful and are actually worth losing and now they have split PvP and PvE for some skills it is much better. I dont think any game where you can use any skill under the sun that your class possesses will be truly balanced considering most skills will be lacklustre compared to the top few meaning only those top few gets used, meaning people complain they are OP and they get nerfed (rightly or wrongly). @Group Play: Saying that I agree this is more about teams and teamwork as opposed to an individuals bar and class. @Unfair: I wouldnt say that, I would actually like to try an MMO like that. Eve had potential but the combat doesnt interest me (Eve + Aion = ftw?). I think its more people want everything handed to them considering WoW is easy mode gameplay built for the casual gamer (or am i wrong?). With WoW's success we have more games like that so now we have a gaming culture built around qq'ing that a game is too hard (this is evident outside of MMO's as well, case in point for me Ninja Gaiden v NG2). AoC was a lot more vicious then this game (e.g. white sands, iirc) I dont think Aion is unfair at all, both sides have access to the same skills so theres no advantage there (unlike WAR), the classes are the same it only comes down to the indiviuals preparation and gear. Now if the game was like Eve there would be no level cap and you really wouldnt stand a chance against that epic 16ft glad dual wielding both the Sword of a Thousand Truths and Excalibur because he has been playing for 3 years. (heh I would actually play a game where that could happen...!) @Zax: show me an MMORPG that requires skill....? I dont have the largest amount of MMO's under my belt but compare healing in GW to a healer in another MMO? Yep no skill needed. Have yet to see something even as demanding as an interrupt ranger in an MMO. |

Nah, the only problem with this games pvp system is how higher levels can kill lower levels too easily. If all the level bonuses were gone then I can see more people actually doing it right now instead of waiting till 50 to do pvp. Personally I wont be doing any of the pvp in this game until that gets addressed. I just consider attacking someone thats handicapped in that way as being unsportsman like for doing so.

WoW's true PvP died four years ago when blizzard changed the old honor system. It's quite funny how they're currently going on about wanting to reward skill in battlegrounds, while they had a near-perfect PvP system all those years ago

Yeah, other than the arena system which you can win $75,000 in if you're good enough, which forces you to fight with even numbers and equal consumables.
Those stupid WoW kids and their winning money, and their even fights, and their fairness... back in my day, the amount of "fun" you had was decided by how many more people you had over your enemy. Those kids have no idea. Stupid kids. God I hate WoW kids. __________________

Wow, comparing EVE with AION, this is pure genius. Yes, this post was full of sarcasm.
It's a insult to EVE and i don't even like the game. __________________ ![]() .:"Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.":. .:R.Oppenheimer:.

There's a middle route where pre-endgame you encourage players to learn to play their PvP roles in a sandboxed environment that is level restricted. Something along the lines of WAR's RvR lakes (divided into 10 level tiers), and Daoc's battlegrounds (divided into 5 level ranges). These are special PvP zones that are not instanced but are level restricted, so it allows players to learn how to PvP free of the threat of being ganked by players many levels above them whom they can never hope to compete with.
Human behaviour will indeed lead people to try to engineer a situation away from a fair fight. But that doesn't mean a game can't be designed that tries as much as possible to encourage more balanced fioghts. The most fun in any PvP game comes when both sides feel they are in with a chance of winning and when players feel like their contribution matters to the outcome of the battle. Being steamrollered or doing the steamrollering is no fun at all. Aion's approach is a totally lazy one. They've put together a half-baked PvP zone in the Abyss, thrown all levels in there together and told everyone to just get on with it. And if the atmosphere of ganking that prevails in the Abyss isn't to your liking there's the other alternative, rifts, where you can engage in .... ah that's right .... more ganking. Zzzzzz. |

First PvP game I played was UO. Anywhere you went, other than towns of course, was open PvP. Honestly, I prefer open pvp like the abyss. I think too many people whine about being ganked (then again I'm above the level curve and play on a lower population server, so I might not being seeing this). Learn to pay better attention to your surroundings, carry consumables, manage your cooldowns, and you'll be ok. Honestly the death penalty from a PK is nothing except for the time lost if you got ganked by a higher level. And if you don't like the abyss, there are plenty of out of the way places to grind where you won't run into rifters.

imo they should of made this game FFA not faction based.
the pvp in this game is sooooo carebear its not even funny, totally brings back lineage 2 pvp. EVERYONE runs away from a fair fight, why shouldn't they? You can farm abyss points through pve, and lose abyss points from dying in pvp, so why the hell would you want to do to someone else? You can say what you want about wow pvp, it NEVER promoted being a pansy. Like is there even pvp in this game? everytime i engage someone the first thing they do is "oh ****, lets gtfo out of here" honestly i should of known better when i watched pvp videos for this game that it was just constantly running away. Age of Conan had its flaws (gameplay was terrible) but at least it was ffa pvp and people actually pvped instead of running away like little nyerkes. I came to this game thinking oh this will be a sick pvp game, i was severely disappointed. |

There is no player versus player in this game...it's players versus player. The only reason anyone actually stands around to fight is if they know they've got the higher levels or they've just got into the Abyss after hitting 25. Frankly, it's a borked system. And this game is nothing like Eve. |
