Hi, first of all I'm new to this forum so hello everybody and I hope we get along well
![]() So here's my question: At christmas I want to buy a Macbook but I didn't find any information whether I can play Aion on a Mac or not. It's necessary for me to know it cause if I can't play it on a Mac I have to buy an other PC/Notebook^^ Thanks for your help |

Windows Emulation
Greetings,
As lots of people have Macs and want to run windows/windows-only software there are many options. VMWare allows you to run another OS on top of your Mac and it is free though you'll need to pimp out your Macbook with decent RAM to support VMServer or VMPlayer (they are free FTW!!). There is software for Mac that I've never used but it's called Parallels and is slightly costly. Another option is Windows emulation using Wine, though another thread had yet to confirm if GameGuard cried when using these methods. I'm sure other people will chime in and give you other advice, maybe you'll get lucky and NCSoft Marketing will think that publishing for Mac is worthwhile (don't hold ur breathz). I believe in you. It's as justamemory says, NCsoft haven't mentioned anything about a Mac version at the moment so you need to install Windows with Boot Camp to be able to use it.
Buy you're MacBook, no problem. @calebWiliams: In my experience the best option is to install Windows, Aion/GameGuard doesn't seem to like Parallels and similar programs (and even if it would work it would give worse performance than a dual boot) @Argo: Because for everything except games the MacBook is superior (lets not have this discussion >_>). It's not hard to dual boot with the help of Boot Camp it couldn't be any simple. Last edited by Andune; 06-25-2009 at 02:15 PM.. |

What the boys said above. I've played AION on a MBP already and it's all great. Anything you buy at Christmas will be a hell of a lot more powerful that what I'm using right now as well.
About some the comments above, you don't have to be tech savvy to run bootcamp. It's an icon on your Mac, click it and follow the simple instructions. It does all the work for you. As an after thought, do you mean Macbook, or Macbook Pro? The 13inch unibody Macbooks have been rebranded to Macbook Pro, and the Macbook is now the white model. To all of you thanks alot. I'll still have to wait for Aion and my Macbook (it'll be mostlickly a MBP
) So I can think about what you to when it appears, maybe NCSoft will already publish a Mac version till decembre^^ But I hope I don't have to pay for the game twice then oO xD |

Firstly, hello and welcome to Aionsource. Secondly my sincere apologies that you are getting a Mac, however I am told that you can dual boot the system to run windows. If this fails your trusty aforementioned device can be used as a PC desktop rest. However it would be better if you are able to dual boot before having to use your Mac for what it is actually designed for.

The PC vrs Mac debate is as old as time.
![]() IMO if you want to game you should buy a pc because they are much easier to upgrade as game software develops than Macs are - there are more choices out there and its much cheaper. However if you are a musician or graphic design artist then a Mac can make your life much easier and since Aion has quite low recommended specs any mac you buy at christmas will happily handle it but you will need to dual boot and load windows every time you want to play. The beta for windows 7 is fairly stable and free at the moment if you don't have an old copy of XP or something lying around. __________________ "It's just a game" is for the people who can't hear the music. - from the genuis of justamemory |

Wrong. The point was that Mac's were limited which they aren't. You're not even on the same page. Also Intel benchmarks on MBP's showed the best performance from equivilent processors in PCs, and that was in the first ever use of an Intel chip in a Mac.
