Moving Aion over to my Laptop

Im going on holiday for the next beta, and well i need to settle my addiction while away so i want to put Aion on my laptop. Long story short i just want to know if i can just drag and drop the files on my desktop into the NCsoft launcher file in my laptop or do i have to redownload the client via the launcher on my laptop.

What you can try, though I don't know if will work (since I don't know if there's any mandatory registry files needed) is install only the launcher on your laptop (just run the Aion.exe file you also used on your main PC) then refuse when it asks to download the game. Next copy over the Aion folder from your main PC into the NCsoft folder on your laptop (installing the launcher should have created one).

Then start the launcher and r-click on Aion in its uninstalled state and choose Properties. Navigate to the Aion.bin file within the Aion/Bin32 folder, then press OK.

For reference I'm using this guide, but I've modified some steps since you already have an installed/unpacked version: How to download and install Aion without problems

Let me know if it works.

I would have tested this when installing Aion on my old PC in addition to the new one, but the Aion folder wouldn't fit on my 8gig USB stick and I was too lazy to run downstairs and untangle the 1TB backup drive. So I just redownloaded it since it was the path of least effort. xD

Yes you can just copy the folder over. What you have to do is install the launcher and not have aion installed, copy the existing aion folder to the new computer, in the ncsoft launcher right click on aion and select properties and click the browse button and locate the aion.bin file. I did this putting aion on my pc at work.

Slightly confused on something, I wanted to put a copy of Aion on my Thumb drive because since I'm testing Win7 there's a good chance in the near future I will have to do another clean install. I understand about needing to keep/reinstalling the launcher and then copying over the Aion directory. The part that confuses me is the next step where you use the Launcher go into aions properties and point it to a directory. The notes here say to point it to the bin32 folder, which contains the Aion.bin file.

Anyway I decided to check my current systems setting and on my my system when I pulled up the launcher and went into Aions properties the path listed is:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\NCsoft\Aion"

So if I do have to do a clean install do I want to use that path name or do I need to put in:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\NCsoft\Aion\Bin32"?

Sorry just trying to make sure I avoid a headache later

Thanks in advance for advice on this

Well basically the exact path doesn't matter - all you need to do is point the Launcher to the Aion.bin file so it can sort of link the launcher and the installed game together (in lacking a registry entry).

If I look on my install the current install path is listed as "C:\Program Files\NCsoft\Aion" as well. It doesn't have to point to the Bin directory, because you're selecting the Aion.bin file for verification and after that the launcher/game itself will set the path for the install directory correctly.

And if some of that didn't make sense, here's the short dummy version for copying over the game:

- Install the launcher from Aion.exe file
- Click Cancel when it tries to install Aion game
- Copy Aion folder from other PC into the NCsoft folder
- Run launcher, r-click on Aion -> Properties -> navigate to the Aion.bin file (doesn't matter where it is)
- R-click on Aion and choose Repair
- Launch game and play

Nothing else you need to worry about if you follow those exact points.

Ah thanks for answering my stupid question, now I stand-under LOL. I will have a retail copy when the game is out but as I'm running on Win7 x64 I had to do the fix to eliminate the "GameGuard Error : 0" issue and just wanted to avoid extra hassles hehe.

Of course if they eliminated GameGuard it wouldn't even be a concern but I think its pretty much a given that isn't going to happen
