[Bad Luck]

NCsoft launcher, all day, no speed now, Vista 64. Before I was having trouble with the launcher stopping at the testing background capabilities part. It got past that yesterday somehow, but then the installation did the freeze. I couldn't get it going again, reinstalled everything. Now I'm back at the background capabilities part and there's no movement. Firewall off or on.

Ok Bad Luck, not to worry. I think if the NCSoft Launcher is playing games with you, it might be better to try one of the alternative installation methods listed. Take a look at question 1 in the first post in this thread. I would recommend trying the Fileplanet download as a first option.

Ok, game should be installed. Problem is, still have the same exact problem with the NCsoft Launcher .

I don't quite understand. You said your previous problem was that the NCSoft launcher wouldn't download the game. If you have the game installed now, how can you have the same problem?

Before I was having trouble with the launcher stopping at the testing background download capabilities part. Now when I try to open the game it tries to open the launcher which fails to open because it stops at the testing background capabilities bit. That's the current problem.

I'm sorry, I thought you had previously posted that the download was getting stuck at 10%...

I think it might be easier for me if you could walk me through the steps that you go through and when/what problem occurs. I have never seen a "testing background capabilities" step so I'm struggling to imagine what point you are at with the installation.

Perhaps some screen shots of the problem would help?

Basically when I click on the Aion shortcut, it tries to open the Launcher. The Launcher does it's own startup and the background thing is one of it's steps it does before it opens.

Ok Bad Luck, if the Launcher requires you to start it before you can run your Aion installation, then it's probably fair to assume you need to run the NCSoft Launcher first. When you run the game, try clicking on the NCSoft Launcher first and selecting "run as administrator", then let me know how you get on.

That's good news Unfortunately the most common issues experienced with the NCSoft Launcher and/or Gameguard are related to security software, as you've no doubt been reading around the place.

Where people experience issues, the best thing is configure your security software to add the appropriate exceptions. Instructions on what files you need to add as exceptions can be found from NCSoft Technical Support -->here. I thought it might be nice to have this, in case you want to reinstall Zone Alarms at a later point

Well i just installed the launcher, but for some reason i still have a north american version after i switched to EU and rebooted my computer? Or am i just being an idiot somewhere?

That's fine, it makes no difference. The client always says Aion (US) when you switch to the EU region after downloading (read questions 5 and 11 of the FAQ page - first post in this thread).
