I dont get why people still manually turn their view/character around with their mouse, just hit the skill button or auto-attack button and the character auto-turns and shoots a volley in half a second.
Its like nobody realizes that even this close to release. Even though its soo simple to figure out when playing :P

1. W to run away from mob.
2. Hit a skill button or auto-attack.
3. W to run away again after 0.5 sec, before the animation even started playing.
4. profit?? no need to jump, no need to turn. figured that out at lvl 12 :P
I'm pretty sure everyone realizes this on AionSource. If not, I'll be damn surprised too :P

Having better rangers around also gives us better rep when we pug too.

And most importantly..... I won't be playing ranger anymore!! Mwaa haa haa haa!!!

On a serious note, I've just did an update and the rest of the information would have to wait till open beta to be completed I guess. If there's anything else I missed about kiting, do tell!
Again, great guide. But not to burst your bubble or anything, it was simple to figure out the "auto attack weaving" (whew such a fancy name) if you look carefully at your combat log for white damage. And for the other rangers out there, the best way to weave auto-attacks in would be to watch the log instead of the animation... but I'm sure everyone knew that already

I love the new part about auto-attack weaving! Didn't know this before. Great addition to the guide.

This whole guide was extremely helpful in understanding some of the Ranger's "tricks".
I'll be sure to try this all out as soon as possible, once I start playing. c:

First of all - thanks to kirua for the guide! Well done!

Additionally I have a question concerning part 5.2 Auto Attack Weaving [aaw] ( I attached the part of the guide concerning this topic below)

I've watched the video and in the end its creator states that aaw might increase your dps but it all depends (at least) on
- weapon attack speed
- ratio of (dps with skill) / ( dps without skill)
Therefore I was wondering if anybody had done the experimenting and the math to figure out under which circumstances aaw is in fact more or less efficient than simple skill rotation without the use of aaw.

Interestingly enough, in Aion there is no such thing as a global skill cooldown (wow~) but animation instead is used to control the speed in which you can use your skills.

In fact this is the same for auto attacks, and if you compare your combat log with the on-screen action, you'll notice that the damage is already done before the animation (and the on screen damage numbers) even starts. We can take advantage of this fact by cancelling the auto attack animation with any skill.

Most of us (like me before I knew this) probably just used some skill rotation, i.e spammed our skills once their cooldowns are over. However (till level 30 at least), it appears to me that our damage from skills isn't very much above what we do with auto attacks, and in my opinion it would be advantageous to tag an additional auto attack damage before every skill.

The easiest way to learn to weave is to stare at your combat log, shoot a normal arrow, and press any skill once you see a new (damage) line pop up.
(...)

For an example I would now start battles with Attack > Snipe I > Attack > Arrow Strike I (chain).

Fitting in the two attacks makes me about half a second slower than someone who would just go Snipe I > Arrow Strike I, but I think the extra damage is worth it (and think it increases dps).

This is especially useful for classes with very slow attack weapons (thus long attack animations).

Quite interesting to read this, I've already noticed that the damage is displayed in the chat before the skill even goes off but never thought you could take an advantage of that. Will definitely try that out in OB.

I guess this helps those less fortunate to deal with slight lag.

I haven't got hard figures, but comparing mob killing speeds, I've convinced myself that AAW is at least worth it before level 30 for rangers.

Think a lot depends on the number of skills you have to rotate. If you need to wait for cooldowns to use your skills in the middle of combat after your initial skill rotations, I think it's worth fitting the AAW in.

For example, say you normally start combat with Skill A that has a 30 sec cooldown, followed by all other skills, then a few seconds of auto-attacks before you start with Skill A again (very common in low levels).

If with AAW, you manage to use up all your skills before the first 30 sec cooldown is over, you have done the same number of skills in the same 30 seconds, and I bet you've managed to fit in more normal attacks.

-------------------------

Finally found another thing I've been looking for:

Gladiator: Visual Guide to DPS - Unmoderated Info

A very interesting bit about auto attack and skill damage.

Slight update on game options especially with the new changes, I can't even put in a full hour into the game yet due to other commitments, but should be finally free to test everything tomorrow.

Quite some updates, not only the names of skills had been changed in the open beta, there is also a difference as to how the skills can be used while kiting.

More to follow tomorrow.

Short AAW video added. Frap finally worked.
