In all of the ranger videos, and screenshots I've seen, I couldn't make out a string. :[ But in reality, depending on your camera distance, you wouldn't be able to see a dinky little string anyway.. But it is still a little disappointing.. :[

On the bright side I think the animations for the bows are very well done, and there is not just one set animation for everything so that adds in diversity. ^_^

There may or may not be bowstrings, but Rangers everywhere rejoyce! In several vid's there has been characters dying with arrows stuck in them!

If there is one thing that has p*ssed me off about rangers its that you fire this arrow and it hits your target and disinigrates on impact. I want my enemies fethered in my arrows when they fall

There wasn't any strings in the bows on RF Online and tbh I don't miss it that much. I'd much rather have a nicer looking bows and some really cool bow attack/skill animations, than have a string be visible and consequently restrict what kind of animations they can do when using the bow.

I checked the vids. None of them have any bowstrings. The rangeress in the Rangerfinal movie is pulling the arrow back through clean air. Disgusting..

It would take a lot of programming to put a bowstring through, THAN make it move accordingly all while you're moving around and firing arrows at the same time.

It doesn't matter anyways, not like you're looking at the front of you're guy.. You're looking at his backside.

The bowstrings in Lord of the Rings Online looks nice to me. Doesn't really seem like a super advanced thing to add.

Other, less advanced games with lesser budgets had them. I really don't see a point why making a bow without a bowstring fire arrows is at all god.

Let me check some old screenies.. I'll just put WoW as an example, I'm sure everyone is familiar with it.







It-s not some high-quiality, super hi-tech bowstring, but it-s there. It wraps when you pull a bowstring, I should know, I-ve played a hunter for quite a while (since WoW came out).

So, if there are stuff that Aion can copy well beyond, why not a simple bowstring on ranged weapons?

The quiver used to be shown as well. Don't know if a patch removed it or if they just weren't there anymore after the lv.40 Quivers, but I do remember some problems between having a 2H weapon, and having the quiver take it's place when you pulled out the bow, and just some overall weird clipping issues. Would be pretty cool, actually, if they had the bow and quiver and whatever weapons you were using always being shown. Looks like Rangers are going to be dual wielding a lot anyway, and thats something i've always wanted out of wow, even with my giant stat stick on my back, still wanted to see that bow.

Either way, don't really care that much if its not there, but it sure would add a lot more detail.

highly doubt adding a 1 px line between 2 points is that much of a graphical advance. then again im not a designer. if wow's engine could do it then im sure Cryengine1 can do it. and clipping is inevitable.

technically it's three points. there's one point at each tip of the bow and one point in the middle where the arrow goes (wow dyslexia kicked in and i had arrow typed worra) During a relaxed phase that point still exists and must be held directly between the other two points. which could be a difficult to animate properly when you have many different scales bows and armors. That said the COH engine is a lot simpler and most of those bows have strings...at least i'm pretty sure they do.

Clipping issues are more prevalent in drawing an arrow from a quiver than the bowstring. drawing an arrow includes the interaction of the hand arrow and quiver, it's not impossible but i think have the arrow clip through the side of the quiver would be a greater fault than haveing an arrow drawn from hammerspace (look it up that's the technical term) After i read about hammerspace i much prefer it to quivers anyway.
