Should there be a secondary weapon for the ranger, (which there will undoubtedly be,) the dagger seems the best-suited in following the desired image of the Scout schooling. It may be my personal take only, but I envision both the ranger and the assassin as mercurial and the presence of a sword, large or small, would seem to interfere. The weight alone of the said weapon inhibits the purpose of agility and speed. I think the daggers would fit, but that's just me.

you also need to look at this game being Asian based where characters wield huge weapons. No matter how muscular or dainty they might be in a lot of anime they are still rather agile. So in the case of a weapon being heavy or light might not apply here.

Rangers will get both the single handed sword and dagger as secondary weapons. Since both the Ranger and Assassin are based on the Scout, the Ranger will continue to possess some dagger skills into late levels that will aid him in close combat, although most of the skills the Ranger gets after class change are bow based.

I wouldnt care which my ranger would have. which ever gave some good stats would be the one i would use since ill be using my bow 90% of the time. If i had to choose for looks then i would pick daggers, since the ranger is typically a quick class and cause daggers look awesome

Since your using a bow, shouldnt your choice in meele weapon just be whichever has stats that will help your bow dmg the most? unless theres some usefull skill we get in the sword or dagger catigory. But seeing as how scouts can use sword or dagger i doubt skills would be restricted to a weapon classification.

Well yeah, I will most likely carry 3-4 weapons for certain scenarios with macros to switch them based on what I need. Obviously if I'm ranged attacking, I'll stick with the melee weapon that helps my ranged accuracy or attack, etc the most, and then switch out when I go melee range if there are better Swords with better DPS. Macros ftw!

I loved equipment changing macros in FFXI, I did them with mostly every macro I had, whether it was extra Enmity+ (For more hate), a single ring for more STR instead of Accuracy for my Weapon Skill, or something else. But they really add another dimension to the game and being the best you can be~
P.S. I'm really on the fence at the moment between Templar and Ranger @_@ I just can't seem to give up one or the other.. |

I remember reading a journal from CBT3 a while back and the player chose to go with a sword/dagger Assassin. They explained that the dagger increased to crit hits and speed and the sword delivered more power. This is something I was glad to hear, coming from FFXI were its fairly common to see players using different weapons at the same time to increase attack speed and deliver a weapn skill with the more powerful weapon. I am guessing we will be able to create weapon macros, during the brief time that I got to play the game, I could change my weapons mid-battle with no restrictions. I am looking forward to trying a sword/dagger combo, also, if it hasn't been taking out yet, the Asassin polearm looked pretty deadly as well.
