Dealing with Sorcs
After grinding in Abyss and hunting for Asmos, the only class that gives me problems are Sorcs, there Stone Skin I never seen to do enough damage to break it, i've heard Silence and Sleep Arrow can get through it but it never seems to work for me. Is it based on luck?

Dealing damage as a ranger has a lot to do with luck. I don't exactly have a winning record against sorcs, but the strategy the seemed to work best for me is to open with Entang + Silence, then Swift/Arrow, then stun chain and then Sleep. Break sleep with Silence after that and go for the same combo again. If they put up a new shield after all of that get the hell out of there.

The above poster mentioned 'being lucky' that's incorrect. Right now, sure, if you keep getting your high damage on stunning shot you might win but that's far from what a fight is really like at higher levels. Our damage is meant to scale meaning as we level up, our burst damage will eventually become superior to sorcerers (I'm talking about 2k crits on almost every skill). There will almost never be a time where you have to RELY on a high damage from stunning shot or rupture arrow in order to win. If you lose it's because you did something wrong. My advice is to level up and don't worry about these imbalances right now or practice dueling some sorcerers. Hmm.. I might just post a video showing people what ranger vs sorcerer is really like at high lvl... Edit: Your problems could also be from being Elyos ![]() Last edited by xr0yc3x; 11-07-2009 at 12:23 PM.. |

If ganking a sorc, do the following:
1. Check and see the timer on their stoneskin. If they don't have one up (surprisingly a lot are lazy and forget to put it back up), then go in and pwn. If their shield is up, check the timer. If the timer is anywhere near 2 minutes left, you will have to break through 2 stoneskins. If it's 3 minutes left or more, you only should have to deal with 1. Sleep arrow, then pwn him. If you have to break through two, do the following. P.S. Don't use poison arrow or else it'll break the sleep. 1. Open up with stunning shot/rupture arrow. Only used focused evasion for curse of roots or sleep. Interrupt everything else. Since you should be getting the jump on him, you'll have time to take the first shield down relatively quickly. Personally, I run with snare trap (air shackle trap), so when my abilities are on CD I like to run to them and place the trap on top of them. Aerial Wild Shot will help break the stoneskin. 2. When you've broken through the first shield, he'll put another one up. Sleep him and then take that shield off, but if rupture arrow is coming off the CD don't use it to help break the shield. Save it for once the shield is down. (You can still use stunning shot though.) 3. Once you've broken through the shield you are free to own him. Silence arrow when you need to. Stunning shot/rupture arrow when it comes back up. If focused evasion is up, save it for sleep/curse of roots, but if it isn't up save silence or stunning shot chain for those two disabling abilities. Use pots when needed. |

The only thing that sucks is that lvl 40 sorcs I've fought were resiting my silence and sleep so i usually get pwned by their inferno or soul freeze. but im lvl 33 so maybe its bc of my ****** bow and the lvl difference.

Level difference is what causes high resistance. You're not meant to kill someone 7 levels higher than you, that's just the way it is so don't try lol. |

To OP, that is a huge level difference. Silence arrow have a pretty high chance against sorc 5 levels higher even. And when equal level, it only require a few shots to break stoneskin. If you use stunning shot chain last, you should even break the stoneskin and get the knockback affect during your first chain. Ranger is designed to have an advantage over sorcs imo. I'm guessing rangers are the reason sorc is buffed in the next update. Can't think of any class that kite their spells during a fight. |

Well, considering you can silence and stun sorcs in stoneskin, I'm pretty positive snare trap works against stoneskin. I'm sure I've used in against them while they have stoneskin up, I just don't remember b/c I haven't pvp'ed in a long time.

Speaking as a Sorc in the mid 30s range, you shouldn't have a problem later on. I don't even mind getting wtfpwned by Rangers, it's called a counter-class and the Ranger does it well. Here's how the fight usually goes (as others have already said):
I'm sleeped, the Ranger plucks away at my shield while I sit there and smash my keyboard, I come out of sleep, the Ranger silences me, I pot it, but oh noes I'm already dead. XD Hang in there and you'll be a Sorcerer killing machine. __________________ -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
