I think that when AionSource loads 12847518047 pop-ups come up that say if you ask about when Beta is, when Release is, if we are guaranteed into beta, blah blah beta, you get a 3-day ban or something.

A fansite forum isn't all about camping veterans who have been here for months and already know about the game. Introducing the game and existing info to new people is just as important as delivering new info to existing memebers. If this is just going to be an information database where people are directed toward prerecorded information instead of inquiry and dialog, than it may as well be a wiki.

It's not about knowing about the game, it's about looking in the General Discussion forums and in the first 3 pages there's 10 threads asking about release dates or OB dates.

I did not in any way say to stop introducing the game and info to new people, just to tell the new people that "Hey, there's 2 threads about this already right there, please use common sense and read them first before making another."

If they wanted to study, they would go to a wiki, a forum is about discussion, and people are alot more comfortable asking questions than studying, a direct response is more suitable for most people, and fostering discussions is what a forum is about.

True, but if its a common question like the release date being asked five times a day it gets kind of rediculous... but we might as well be trying to stop world hunger before people stop doing things like that.

What about this:

During the registration process, the users have to answer in a multiple choice test about Aion. Only if the correct answer is given, they can register.
Also don't have always the same questions; let's do it in a more dynamic way:
10 questions to answer, taken through a random() function from a database of questions.
That would increase the quality of posts, but unfortunately the user growth would decrease a bit.

There's also that automatic search thing that happens whenever you post a new thread. I imagine if you put in "Aion Date" it'll come up with all those threads you say.

Yeah, that's one of the main ways I've tried to head off useless threads. It seems to work at least a bit, but if there's other vBulletin mods out there that'll help I'd be open to installing them. Check vbulletin.org if you're interested in that.
