Avatar size

Any reason other than bandwidth that the off-site avatar size is so low (40kb)?. I've never seen another forum with such a low restriction.

I'm not sure, I think that was the default and I was too lazy to change it. :S

However, look at the avatars people made for kieron! 40kb is good enough for those, and they look awesome.

I would be willing to change the limit, though. What would be a better max? 50k?

Size?

i was thinking like 500kb so we can have some animated gifs

...maybe atleast 200

Animated avatars are extremely annoying (most of the time) and slow down website load times.

Meh, when I made my avatar, I had to save it in a bunch of different formats and mess around with settings to get it under 40. Then I managed to get it 23kb. I didn't have to compromise on quality much, but maybe it would just be easier to up the limit instead of having people have to fiddle around with settings...

I'm with hunter, 100 sounds good. enough to make animated ones that won't create too much trouble.

Its fine as is in my oppinion... atm its neat and tidy, but the bigger and/or more animated they get, the more of a pain they become...

Hellboy 2 is made by the same director or producer (not sure which one), a lot of the creatures look similar, and I love his designing.
