Faction/Class Icons & Legion Logos!

In an attempt to sexify threads and such, it would be awesome if factions and classes were displayed in picture format. But it would require the Class and Faction fields within the User CP to use pull-down lists as opposed to text boxes. The Faction icon could be no bigger than the average avatar, with some fancy photoshopping button looking stuff, and the Class icon could be shown in a bubble within the faction icon, possibly in the bottom left corner, so as not to block the faction symbol.

Also, for legions, they could have a short and wide little banner displaying your legion. However, these images would be uploaded by the member and would have to meet the canvas size requirements. Make the images required to be .png. I love that format. It's small, supports transparency, and it maintains high quality. And it supports animation, if I'm not mistaken.

.png doesn't support animation. For HQ-animation you still need flash. For LQ-animation .gif.

Also this is a very very nice idea. But the Faction- and Class-Icon should be half the size of an avatar so it can be side by side.
So you can save some space for the banner

Or someone could make tiny icons for class and faction about the same size of the instant messenger icons and I could use those. Completely doable, I think. Anyone want to make them? :P

Sounds feasible from my point of view. I completely support this. Having legion banners and Class/Faction icons sounds like a great idea!

This is what I was going to suggest. Although I think the images should be 50x50, no animation, and separate for faction and classes. For example, you would have an Elyos icon (50x50), and the next to it, an assassin icon (50x50). So, is there anybody who isn't as lazy as me, and would work on this?

The idea is great, will kinda cement the feeling that Aion is getting closer, and give additional features to the Source.

Fae seems pretty psyched for it . I'd give him a hand if it's needed. But i reckon we should see what he comes up with first, then we can go from there.

Well, they'd have to be bigger than the IM icons, because the designs are a bit intricate and should be big enough for people to notice the differences. I just thought it would be nice if it work nice if the class icon was within the faction icon for aesthetic purposes. Similar to avatars on the World of Warcraft forum, with the member's character level in the bottom left corner. But perhaps it would need to be a little larger to really distinguish between classes in the case of our forum.

But regardless if it's combined or juxtaposed to eachother, they should be the same total length as the legion banner.

Short, thin banners might work. Like 25 pixels high and 100 pixels long, perhaps.

Yeah, that'll work. I'm assuming you're talking about the legion logo. Personally, I'd like it to stretch a little longer though, because you've got all that space. How about 35x150? Anyways, what format would be good? I think .png is enough. .gif is bulky and doesn't support as much detail as .jpg or .png. I suggest .png because it is negligible in size, so it wouldn't be a burden for people with less than satisfactory internet connections.

Then again, 25x100 could work. You could make the faction and class icons 50x50. Making little bubbles might be a bit more aesthetically pleasing, since they stand on their own.

Would the "race" and "class" labels dissapear, or is a label necesary for the profile fields to work?
