Thank you for the excellent grouping of links. Doing all the research I can before launch. I really enjoyed the open beta and plan to make my main a Sorc.

Macros!
How about a highlight on macros just for sorcs?
I love macros and use several regularly but what follows is by far my favorite and a lifesaver. I call it "Panic Button" because I tend to freak out when surprised by some sneaky infiltrator when I have highway hypnosis from grinding or questing for hours. After a while your reflexes soften and your brain unconsciously writes off anything coming at you swiftly as just another soldier in the two inch farming bot army coming to nab your resource node. As we all are aware, sorcs have a ridiculous number of spells/skills that seem to all get used enough to warrant action bar status and hotkeying. I'm probably not alone in that my fingers have muscle memory from flowing through my usual cast sequences, but when surprised and startled all of that tends to escape me and I end up looking like a target dummy as some 13 year old spaztard turns me into a pincushion! Being ganked and having to walk back across half the universe to resume what you were doing gets old quite fast. So I thought out what I needed to do in these situations, coded it into a macro, and turned it all into a single button press. I hotkeyed the macro to my mouse's scroll-wheel downpress function because that is not too easy to accidentally press and my hand is normally on the mouse 100% of the time so I can press it (or smack it sometimes, lol) as soon as I recognize the danger approaching. Sorry for rambling, heh heh, yeah...here's the macro: /Skill Boon of Iron-Clad I (great defensive spell, really helps to survive a sneak attack) /AutomaticSelection (targets the closest enemy) /Skill Root I (get it pinned down with root) /Delay 1 /Skill Blind Leap I (poof, where'd I go?) /Delay 1 /Skill Curse of Roots I (1.5 second cast -- our fastest total CC ability) With the crisis averted, it is now decision time. Will it be fireballs from space or lazer beams to the face? Self-explanatory to most fellow face melters, it does what sorcs need to do when someone or something gets the drop on us: survive, get some distance, and gain control of the fight. Every cast in the macro except the last is an instant cast, so the usual problems with delay times are a non-issue and it runs very quickly. I chose TREE at the end because it's a half second faster cast than Sleep (a lot can happen in half a sec) plus it's so much easier to tell if it gets resisted. I've used this macro 6 times so far in pvp ambush defense (and many more times against non-player mobs) and it has worked beautifully every time so far. I realize that a lot can go wrong here. You could be silenced or stunned and the CC spells may get resisted. At the very least, you have a first-line quick defense plan and worst case scenario you find a way to evade a bit longer and get some other CC down. Tweak it to you liking and try it out on a simple mob to see how it works for you. I recommend aganst adding too much more to it, though. The longer a macro gets the less reliable it becomes. I hope it helps some of you as much as it has helped me ![]() |

Nice work man, I was trying to make an "escape" macro while I was getting ganked in Upper Abyss; was smth like "Vaizel's wisdom=> Boon of iron-clad=> Illusion Door" but dropped it since the Illusion Door is made by retarded fktard devs that requires you to target the ground instead of just opening a fking portal/stargate...
Anyway to be ON topic, doesn't stuff go wrong with the "/AutomaticSelection " part? I mean...can't it just target by accident the next mob on your screen and then INSTANTLY root it...since the attacked will most likely be on your back side of the screen? What I mean to say is that I believe you'll need to somewhat first FACE the attacker and THEN press the OH SH!T button ![]() |
