Staff or Spellbook

What will the sorcerers be using? and can it be interchangeable?
from what i hear its a spellbook, i think that will be corny and cheesy at the same time. I mean really, you see someone with a HUGE axe ready to cut more than an artery loose in that neck of yours, and all you have to defend yourself is a book -.-

With the stigma system, your character becomes unique, for instance, you can enable a mage to use an axe or a sword, or a heavy armor, but i'm pretty sure that a caster with a heavy armor would have some casting penalitys.

Sorc default is books/tomes SM defualt is orbs Chanter default is staff
Thats how it is atm but like alister said with stigma you may be able to equip anything you want. There is a penalty for wearing heavier armor tho greatly slows casting time.

If the stigma system is all what it is supposed to be... Ill be a sorc with some healing powers/buffs wouldn't that be nice?

Yeah that class would be fun... especially with the stigma system. Too bad they didnt make a Paladin class.

I love the look of opening a book and zotting some Mobs with the spell listed inside it
I think it has a good look to it. its not like we're going to parry an axe with it. Our attacks and def are our spells.

I like the idea of the stigma system, allowing you to equip other weapons and armors. I would like to see the Sorcerers have the option to increase their malee ability by equiping the staff or something like that. Wands, staves, and books/tomes should all be the options of the sorcerer, each increasing either the malee dmg and defence or lowering it. If you have books/tomes equiped you should have less cast time and higher dmg dealt but lower defense. If you have a staff equiped you will have more defense but a slightly longer cast time and lower dmg dealt. If you have a wand equiped you would have a medium between the two. Just some ideas.

I am starting to get tired of the idea that a mage style class needs to have a weak defense. I don't understand this. Just because someone uses magic as a weapon doesn't mean they don't know how to effectively protect themselves from a malee attack. I don't like the idea that mage classes take a hit to defense.

What you say is true, but you must remember that this is a game. You problem is a common clash between what's in reality/logical and what should be in a game. (not that sorcerers exist in reality...or logical for that matter)
Well there's your problem! Sorcerers don't exist. So basically, anyone can make anything up for them, from high damage to low defense. Again, remember that this is a game. If you give sorcerers high damage, they should have something else to compromise for that power; low defense. Giving them both would break the game.

Also...why would you like to increase your melee ability as a sorcerer? I doubt you're even going to use a whack someone with a staff when you can summon a tsunami at them. Even outside games, Harry Potter doesn't poke someone's eyes out with his wand, does he?

I agree that is why I proposed a slight ability for the players to make a choice. I proposed the idea that the sorcerer would take a hit to their damage done by increasing their defense. I understand that if given both then that particular class would be to dominating. My suggestions were meant as more of a way to personalize the character and allow for some asthetic changes that would more suit the idea of the player. This would allow for some cosmetic changes as set forth by the player while still adjusting the characters playstyle and strengths. I think it would add another touch of reality to a game and allow for a better sense of connection with the player.

As for Harry Potter, yes he does attempt to poke someone's eye with his wand. He poke the Dementor in the face with his wand in the opening seen of the movie Order of the Phoenix. I would like to point out that I only know this because my wife is a huge Harry Potter fan and we watched the movie again the other day.

I never watched Harry Potter, but I just came up with that since I can't imagine him poking someone with that. You got me on that one. And you'd rather hide behind your wife the fact that you're a die-hard Harry Potter fan?
