This doesn't have anything to do with Aion, but I've always wondered whether or not I should upgrade to Vista. I'm still running on the XP SP2 thing, and a couple of my friends have told me to go get the 64bit version of Ultimate. However, after reading countless posts of countless Naysayers regarding the 64bit version, I'm abit aversed to actually getting it.
My question is what are real the advantages of Vista over XP? and if I choose to go vista, is there any good support from microsoft? I'd like to point out that I do have old (like win95 old) games that I still play on my PC, and was told that these won't work when I decide to go vista (is that true?). Also I heard that I should wait for the new version of windows to come out (the one after vista...windows 7 i think or something like that). Would that be better in the long run, or no? A vista upgrade (32bit though) here in the Philippines would cost me about 9,600php (divide that by 41 for the $ equivalent) for the OEM. Oh yah, whats the difference between the 32bit and 64bit version of Ultimate? |

advantages for a gamer? directX 10
disadvantages? Ram performance, compatibility with certain drivers for older rigs afaik. If you plan on getting only Aion, you better stick with XP imho, if you are one of those who plays a lot of new games, divx10 is kinda cool to have, but then again I can live without it, so I personaly went for xp. Had Vista Ultimate. Crashed constantly, disliked games accutely (in particular FFXI) and was so damn slow with 2GB RAM it made me want to physically remove my own eyes.
It got so bad I stopped using it in favor of an older machine with XP, untill I acquired a copy of XP to put on the new one instead. Been perfect since then. In short: XP = Good. Vista = Bad. |

The thing about vista, is it's not that it's a bad OS...It's just a incredibly horrid written OS with so much useless code..That it really hinders performance and increases the amount of memory needed. Vista was suppose to be a ground up build, but they still ended up taking code from prior operating systems of windows and implemented it into the new Vista operating system...
Vista may have some nice features and all, but it is poorly written, which is different from being a poor os. Consider Vista the Windows ME of the current age, Windows 7 is slated for a next year launch, it will be a built from scratch OS....At least Vista was suppose to be, let's hope they get it right this time. __________________

hmm sp1 for vista. Many of users already have't and they like it. Fast as xp with sp2 so i think some ppl just have problems. I have vista ultimatr 64 bit and no problems with anything. Why ? i dunno maybe because im not modify it

Running Vista x64 Home Prem. and I've had no problems (aside from installing, which turned out to be me making a minor mistake in my hardware assembly)..
DX10 isn't that good from what I've seen of it, but it does have some nice touches to it and does enhance your graphics a fair bit - assuming you have a rig to run games on max with DX10 enabled ![]() it's a nice, pretty looking OS - with huge chunks of redundant code, which does make it slightly less efficient than XP - but again, if you have the rig to compensate for it - you won't really notice. __________________

Vista has failure written all over it.It was rushed and even with SP 1 ( which fixed bugs only to introduce brand new ones instead ) it's a lemon.
I bought a new PC last year or so and was asked what OS I wanted . I worked at a PC repair shop back then and saw what Vista was like in practice . Obviously I chose XP. If I were to advise anyone in their choice for OS ,I'd strongly advice not to upgrade to Vista but hangon to XP . Windows 7 is already being developed as we speak because MS realizes Vista-sales aren't going to sufficiently high to cover R&D costs .I'm not making that up but heard it from guys who beta test for MS . From what I have heard windows 7 will be to Vista what XP was to Windows ME . As we all know XP was in fact ME as it should have been from the start . Obviously that will include Directx 10 support. But I wouldn't buy into Vista for directx 10 support only anyway. That is a very expensive upgrade for directx if you ask me ![]() |
