Upgrading to Nehalem?
Just wondering if folks here are planning on ugrading to the new processors when they come out. I know many will always go for the bigger, better, faster, newer, but this may not be a significant upgrade for gaming boxes specifically.

![]() I dunno I've heard their main boost is in multi threading/tasking, Vista will help that quite a bit, but I dont think there would be a huge gain until Windows 7 is out, and there are a lot more supporting applications. But who knows, MMO's can be very CPU intensive they might help out but I cant see a game like Aion utilizing 4 cores very well. |

If what I read was correct from PCworld, it was the 6 core that was coming out soon, Nehalem isn't coming out till 2010 (at least for consumers). I'm no computer geek but I don't think many games support 6, let alone 8. However, the upside to Nehalem is the fact that power consumption scales depending on what you are doing, for the times when you aren't using all 8, it will only use what is needed rather than use up more power than necessary.
Will I upgrade to that? I doubt it. It's going to cost a bundle to get, especially if it first comes out. Although I am getting a new computer when it releases though in hopes of the quad core will drop in price. |

Ahh i forgot a bout the power consumption, that is a good point. I wonder how well that compares to power friendly solutions built into the Mobo a la Asus' power AI?
