I'm more excited about the upcoming Larrabee architecture than Core i7. My plain old Q6600 has not failed me yet. I'll definitely be interested in getting a new cpu when true 8-core hits the market.

to do what? edit and convert 6 videos at the same time? Until there comes a time when real parallel computing happens on a CPU and we have a CGPU I can't see any real use for more than 4 cores in a desktop.

Why go for the virtual stuff when you can have the real deal in the not so distant future? That's all I'm suggesting. Of course, there are people out there who want this as soon as it comes out. Good for them. "Moving an application to two threads on a single SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading) -enabled core will increase cache-thrashing by 42%, whereas it will decrease by 37% when moving to two cores." Nope, and possibly even on the low end. 3.8 was achieved on air on the reference board, horribly designed one at that.

How long must I wait for these?. How much better a performance boost would a new pc have with one of these instead of say a q9550 with top range graphics cards, 4gb ram? And do you think it is worth me waiting for these to be released (after aion) or should I just get a new pc for aion - ie how much will I really lose out by if I get a pc based on the current chips instead of these new ones?

we all don't know when its coming out, a handful of people know, they said late October: no, early November: nada now they say almost December.
side note: do you think there will be a coolermaster geminiII for the new socket, at one point you could get the heat sink for nearly every socket. but then we haven't heard about any fans or heat sinks, any one seen heatsinks besides the one for the republic of gaming board? __________________

Some companies are selling or upgrading brackets for old fans. With the lifting of the NDA we should see these by the end of the month.
You will need a new mobo x58 as well as ddr3 and 3 sticks of it to see the benefits. One of the reasons the intel board is crap 4 dimms WTF? |
