I have yet to buy my computer...
DDR3's price is already beginning to drop slowly. 4 GB of DDR3 is already 150-300$. Is it worth grabbing DDR3 instead of DDR2 just because of the new architecture, Core i7? Will the Core i7 and the x58 board become the new standard for upcoming processors and motherboards? Within the next 3-4 years? Thanks for the answers. ![]() |

yeah I wonder the same thing as Akaris, I am getting a computer this Christmas, if the new x58 type motherboard will become the usual for the future, I might as well get i7.
I am trying to build a comp which would be easy to upgrade with time :P but yea if I am able to get a i7 system at a reasonable price, I am probably getting it __________________

After the release of the new X58 motherboards and i7, I would wait a while before buying them. I would do this to see what kind of critical bugs/issues there are and take note of them. For example, there were serious issues in certain brands of nforce 680 boards when they first came out.

I would wait for Q2 of next year when the mainstream processors are out, these are technically server CPUs. Heck with waiting these things are blowing everything out of the water.
Already has 4 OC world records lol. |

Yep I agree. When Core 2 first came out in the summer of 2006, it started out with the E6300 and E6400. The really good stuff didn't show up until roughly a year later.

But yeah, wait till Q2 to let the hardware mature a bit - iron out the bugs and improve performance. __________________

Even if the new 780 790 boards are good, there's no reason AT ALL to buy one - you should be buying ATi GPUs, no need for SLi boards ;D __________________

Yea that's true. I got lucky with the 680i that I've had since it released in 2006. No issues with mine. I guess I dodged a bullet.

YoYoTech and Falcon Northwest have already unveiled their Core i7 machines, and at ridiculously high prices too. How do these companies stay in business if no one wants to buy their expensive products?
