I need help choosing a new ISP..
Okay so I'm looking for a new ISP, Charter Communications isn't doing it for me anymore. I'm paying $40/month for a 10mbps connection & I'm getting a lousy 50-150kb/s..
I've tried non-stop to contact them about my internet connection.. When I finally get a hold of them, It's always someone who I can't understand.. I tried to solve this problem by using the Charter Live chat.. Which is an almost instant response, but here is the thing the people on the live chat have no clue what they're doing.. I tell them one thing, they assume another.... [I'll stick with charter, no need to switch.. must have been an issue with the download traffic.] ~Awbee P.S - Aion is now completely downloaded total time - 15hrs 20mins.. Pretty long for a 10mbps connection right? Last edited by Awbee; 07-03-2009 at 08:59 PM.. |

Yeah, we can't really suggest anything without knowing where you are. There's actually a lot of smaller businesses that have better deals for cheaper, like maybe your telephone company where you live might offer internet services that are better and cheaper (and they may even have a combo deal that you could make it even cheaper since you have phone service with them already), or some other place, it's hard to say without being there, y'know.

Distance - <50 MI Download speed 10.07mb/s Upload Speed 1.07mb/s Ping 30ms -------------- As for my location, I've just recently moved back to Edwardsville, IL... Also after I did a search on speedtest.net, it was showing Charter communications to have the best connection (6.29 mb/s).... Should I stick with CC or what? ~Awbee |

I remember Aion taking quite some time to download when I did it just before beta weekend #2 due to traffic or something. Anyway I was getting around 200kB/s. According to speedtest your connection seems fine, are you sure it's not just Aion?
Something you should know is that there is a difference between "kbps" and kB/s, kbps being kilobit per second and kB/s being kilobyte per second. 10Mbps is 1,25MB/s since 8 bit is 1 byte. ISPs usually offer speeds in mbps while MB/s is what you see when you are downloading. If you were really downloading with 150kbps (18.75kB/s) then Aion would take something more like 90h to finish. ![]() __________________

![]() Umm yeah, It was 150kb/s.. I didn't know there was a difference, I assumed it was just a different way to say it.. lol.. Anyway, It might have been the traffic causing it to slow down.. I tried another file planet download to test & I was getting 1.03mb/s... I'll edit my first post to avoid more confusion.. lol ~Awbee |
