There's alot of intrigue about this or that ability, but when it comes to attacking, debuffing, and interrupting, their value is only as significant as a just comparison to all the other classes which should be doing those and better at it. I'm not looking for Templar to offer offense and debilitation, I'm hoping they will achieve their defensive role. Some damage reducing debuffs and such are definently a good part of their role, but unless it's seen that templars debuffing power is something superior to others, there's little reason to even bring them up.

Of course if we aren't the hardest to kill, thats a problem, just because we have to last the longest to do the most damage to our opponent, unlike other high damage classes that churn out tons of damage in a matter of seconds. The main thing we might end up doing in PvP would simply be to make the enemy so debuffed and annoyed that they eventually are 1) pounded to the ground by our damaging allies or 2) turn on us and attack.

Being hardest to kill is of little use, really. Anyone who is singled out will be defeated, so the question is, will the templar ensure his teams survival that way he isn't just the last man standing, and also whether his defensive focus is competative enough to match offensive output of other classes, simply having the best defense really doesn't amount to much.

The way I see it, most important role a Templar could play in a large PvP battle would be to:
1) Lead the charge with the other DD's following behind the Templar(s) while taking the hits and ensuring that the DD's can reach the enemy. 2) Stay and protect the Clerics, Sorcerers, Spirit Masters, basically the classes that stay in the rear and cast. Keep them from dying by the enemy's DD's. That's just how I see Templars. True defensive purposes right there. Oh man think I'm going to make a Templar first instead. I'd also have to agree that Templars shouldn't be able to "kill" any of the other classes in PvP. Definately should be able to survive though. |

Another imporant role that Templars could be part of is to graple a huge group of people around them (just like we see in the class videos) and lower splash/aoe damage on everyone else because of this. Giving their allies some breathing room to use a pot or to run, etc, even cast some aoe/splash damage on the group gathered by the Templar graple, making Templars extremely useful in pvp. Just imagine how people could use that to their advantage in combat; quite a resource not only in a pinch, but whenever you want to use some firepower over a large group of enemies.
And Baha, you must remember that in many cases you will be in mass pvp, meaning you won't be singled out, and taking hits while 2 or 3 allies take down your attacker means you have a high chance of survival. One on one could be a problem though vs certain classes, but who knows as of yet.

High HP
High Defensive Capabilities With those two in mind, we should be taking hits for others on our side by drawing attention to ourselves. How do we do that? It's simple. We annoy the hell out of main DDs and go after the healers. I see us killing Clerics, Enchanters, Sorcerers, Spirit Masters, Assassins and Archers. I also see us grabbing the attention of Sorcerer, Assassin, and Archer groups and being mass pwned. Of course I also see us finding out who is attacking our healer and pulling that target(s) off of that person by repeating the above. Sound good?

The Templar i hope is something at least along the lines of a paladin in terms of healing potential. From what i hear their heals require a regent but i dont know the delay time and im also not too keen on the dmg calculation in this game but i hope that the Templar is equipped with mediocre attack power and phenomenal defensive potential. Just enough attack force to not take half a life bar in 1 hit but to make killing others in pvp 1v1 an option. From what i see in the videos the Templar deals decent damage and only has a problem getting to their opponents i guess that will be their weakness not sure tho.
