It has been said before - to die for your group, to lead them and to support them.
I'll be playing a Ranger as well, though.

Personally, i just love tanking. Normally i hate large amounts of responsibility, but I also like being in the thick of things. You can't do that from range... and you can't do that when the only thing between your virtual heart and a very mean weapon is half an inch of leather... so I roll the massive, hulking, 300 lbs shield wearing chunk of metal that can stare at any enemy in the face and laugh at their foolish attempts to penetrate my 1 ton armor, then smite them.
Of course, thats all done when i have a helpful handy cleric backing my metal @$$ up ![]() plus i played Tankadin in WoW from 40-70 and enjoyed it, specially since the paladin in WoW wasn't actually useless damage wise (consecration, hammer of wrath and some judgments). Then i switched Healadin... and it is just not as entertaining. So i plan on being unkillable in this game. XD

As many points have already been stated, the main reasons, as a guild leader the tank is a natural choice, leading your clan through raids, hunting expeditions etc. Its your pace and tempo that determines wether your party lives or dies. In PvP you generally have the most survivability on the field to see how the siege or battle progress's and make decisions. Finally, just simply being able to survive nearly anything that comes your way, is sexy.

were the same thing in lineage, atleast on my server, but raiding there and raiding in games like WoW are quite different. Also the aspect of siege and mass field PvP is different as well, usually found myself last one standing in many defenses of my castle, made for quite the fun rally ^.^

I like templar mostly because of the role it plays. I have a lady, and I'm really more concerned about participating with her rather than playing another game, so I'll let her be some squishy class, and I'll protect her
![]() But also, Templar basically Iconizes the character of the Elyos, which I intend to play, the nice sword and shield, and the name Templar has a very holy overtone to it.

The reason I picked the Templar is because what it means to me. As someone mentioned the term Templar is Ol' Knight. Created in order to protect the pilgrims going to Jerusalem. They soon rose to become a massive organization. "[A Templar Knight] is truly a fearless knight, and secure on every side, for his soul is protected by the armor of faith, just as his body is protected by the armor of steel. He is thus doubly-armed, and need fear neither demons nor men." I like the idea of a Spiritual Warrior. Also the Templars ability to "Serve and to Protect". The Templar can do both things at the same time. For me the Templar symbolizes the true "Holy Warrior" Clad in sheets of armor, and protecting all. On top of all that I've mostly played the role of a tank in most MMO's. From WoW being my first to Knight Online, Cabal and now Aion.

Usually I don't play tanks very much, but I think its a nice way to get to learn the game 'safely'. And ofcourse, like stated many times, the term Templar sounds very 'ment-to-be'. I'm very excited to test out this Archetype.

I can't say I am committed to the choice of Templar -- way too soon to tell. There's still a lot of information to be desired about each class, but I am a big fan of survivability classes in PvP. If the Templar can do well outside of PvE tanking, I think I'll enjoy it.

I have chosen the path of the templar simply because tanking is the best thing I'm good at. I'm sure I'll be a pretty good damage dealer too though. I'll just have to try both of them and make up my mind or just have two char's with one templar and one gladiator XD.
About the pvp, I think tanks can be very effective in mmo's under certain circumstances since they have high HP and def and can outlast their opponent. Though on the other hand, since Aion will more than likely have a very fast paced pvp system, long fights caused by templars due to their high def but low attack, can be a problem.

Seems like alot of people are gonna roll Templar. In the character poll we are like the second most popular right now. I guess alot of tanks can't be a bad thing.

Alot of anything can be a bad thing in a party reliant game, these games often forget to find alternate and shared functions for a single class in a party, leaving the most saturated ranks without company to assist them.
