Sorry, I was being facetious, I was listing the two skills that give you a couple of seconds to figure out whether it's a fight worth fighting. Neither skill is bad to use right away though IS can be saved for an "oh crap" moment when you need to get rid of that DOT or snare. The point is, if you pop your damage mitigation right away you have some time to look around. Are they solo? Are they a class you want to bother with? Do you have help near you? If it's a fight you want to fight then get your DPS on. If it isn't, use the damage mitigation and everything at your disposal (stuns and such) to get away

First thing is figure out what class I am fighting and how many. IF any clerics are in the mix you are not killing anything unless they are stupid. Any class solo I will take on unless it is a cleric.
If more then 1 and they have a healer it is also pointless to fight. Healers i drag to the guard towers some are stupid and will chase. When the realize they are near a tower they try to run that's when i hit them with IJ to pull them into the guards then Shield slam after it wears off. As far as casters/sins/rangers you never start with IJ it will almost always never hit. You need to pay attention to the buffs people have on before you IJ |

iv got no inferno-->dont do enough damage to harm-->i pop a potion and fight back a little, probably stun and then fly away near freindly npc. If the other guy is dumb enough (yes they are often^^) the folow my and as soon as they are near me i pull and the npc finishes for me
![]() Theres no other tactics for me, i really tried several times either if i let a mob trigger my shield skills or not as soon as the other guy does also use potions i dont stand much of a chane unless i use the big ap potions and then im not able to kill the oponent before he can run yet. This will change in a few weeks (dont have the time to play much atm) and the kromede mace ill get since im a lucky nyerk. |

Good Idea. When I was 25 a llvl 42 lowlife from Calamity came to lower abyss and killed me for 1 AP or for w/e reason. Funny thing was that idiot was still standing there camping my body after I came back from taking a dump to reconnect. Good thing I was not DC'd so, I just went back to Eltnen and then to another zone in abyss. Anyway, that loser's name is Jozen.

Okay, this seems like a good thread to ask - how the heck do I take on rangers? I've fought off every other class when being attacked (even clerics! Well, once), but I don't think I've ever killed a ranger or even run away successfully (assuming around my level range, that is - I've killed lower level ones! Go me?). I'm a total noob at PVP - it's not something I usually focus on in games - and I'm new to tank classes, too.
And once a ranger starts the lovely CC skills (i.e., the instant he/she attacks me), I find it impossible to win. I can use IE once before I'm dead, and the ranger usually uses yet another root spell (often a trap, since I've pulled him/her right to my feet, lovely) and gets away before I can kill him/her. 30 sec later when IE cools, I'm already dead. >.< Any advice? |

I have to ask at about what lvl can do you do all this?
I'm only lvl 26/27 atm and still need to run pretty much most of the time. Of course me PvP exp is pretty low for now and it seems that I've only been attacked by 2-5 man groups and/or SM or rangers thus far. Guess I'm just venting and wait for things to get better for me once I get better pots and lvl up a bit. |

It wont get better for a long time unless you got good equip(means: blue armor, blue on level weapon/gold near level weapon, max crit sockets, POTIONS/SCROLLS! ). With a green weapon you can forget to kill anything (though you could kill something but only if its attacked by a mob and 1/3health and no cooldowns left
) of your level besides a glad with a worse weapon then yours. Why forget? Because: a)its so nyerk not worth it if you cant make fast kills b)your gonna need to be extremely lucky c) your oponent should not know how to play his class (meaning cleric/chanter: heal themself, ranger, mage, sm kite you) Get a group and you can kill more and you are usefull with your IE. @Kiena: If your over 41 with decent equip its pretty 50/50 against rangers (thats what i just got told on ts^^), below you can run, theres (mostly) no way a ranger can kill you before you reach an npc, of course if he is not much higher level than you or with golden bow...or you dont have your emp armor and potions ready. If hes about to get you (andyour in abyss) drop and he gets 0 while you still have to pay (only) 1kinah at the soul healer ![]() |

if it doesnt seem to be doing much damage i assume its around my level, use 3k DP skill if needed and fight him |

1) They have crazy CC, roots, snares, and all we really have is Great Healing Pots, so use them wisely. What I usually do is wait for one of their attacks to trigger my Sheild Spells, then I pop Charge, use a Pot to clear my snare and rush them. 9 times outa 10 I get close enough to lay my shield chains into them, which hurts bad. 2) Use your IJ correclty. Do NOT use it when they are straffing around you as this ups their Evasion and your IJ will likely be evaded. Wait for them to stand still to increase your chances. Also, only use IJ when you are all your cooldowns up so when you do pull them close and snare them, you get a full DPS rotation on them. It best to have Shield Slam up as well to get some more time in melee range with them. 3) When you are snared and waiting for IJ to come up, or waiting on for Heal Pot to come up, use your Steel Wall Def to absorb more damage while they plug away at you from range. Botom line is to kill a Ranger you need to be PATIENT and wait for those 2 or 3 sweet opportunities to use your skills to get them into melee range to work them down. Even if all goes right it still not 100% sucess rate, but I kill more Rangers than I die to. ------------------------- The classes I have the most trouble with, in order are: Chanters Clerics Spiritmasters The only way I get a kill on a Chanter or Cleric is if they get nyerky and don't heal themselves. Usually I will use only 1 or 2 of my attacks on them, leading them to beleive my damage sucks and let them hurt me down. When they see they got me to like 30% health and they are still at 80%, they usually get overconfident. Then, when the time is right, I will pop a HP pot and burst them down as hard as I can, timing my Shield Slam and IJ to interrupt their heals. With a little luck, I can kill them. But, if he is smart and never lets his health get low, I got no chance. Chanters are just effing hard with their damage, their slows, debuffs, heals, etc. P.S. when going up against a cleric, I will agro a nerby mob to hit me so help proc my sheild chains Works great, but you get added dmg.Just some pointers... Thank you! That's exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. It may or may not help me - as I said, still pretty nooby - but it certainly can't hurt. I appreciate it!

When you do get in close you only have a FEW SECONDS to kill them, so your best bet is to probably hit them with 1-2 skills, then use Shield Bash followed by another 1-2 skills. After this they will probably try to cc you so they get a chance to run away. This is the part where you hhave to get lucky, IJ them before they get a chance to do anything more and hopefully you get lucky with shining slash and finish them lol. But other wise... if you do all this and you cant kill them.. its basically back to the drawing board and you have to back up to wait for some CDs -_-. I have to be honest, a substantial amount of my kills against sorcs, clerics, or rangers involve a lucky shining slash crit which takes out a good chunk of their HP. |

I am quite disturbed.
Normally (w/o the Aetheric Armor Stigma), SMs and Mages are my worst enemies. Period. Whereas Assassins and Rangers are quite easy (you have a Plate Armor to block their lousy toothpicks and arrows). But seriously, vs Sorcs, I get rooted and dotted for 1347 Times, then I use Iron Skin to shed of that crap, and instantly, I am frozen or rooted again =(. New DoTs on me, after my Buff expires, they go on and nuke e (most likely with their DP Skills). Vs SMs, what can I say 'bout that? Fear, DoT, DoT, next Fear, DoT DoT ... A mob attacking my feared erosive, freeze-burning poisoned corpse brightens my death up some times. Vs Gladiators I win most of the time (Jup, they do no substantial dmg, are too squishy to tank my "dmg"), though yesterday, I got raped really badly vs. one. Even with Emp Armor and Iron Skin. Shoulda use more DP food =/. Chanter are somewhat formidable opponents while they are really nasty, when socketed towards Parry. Parry most of my crappy dmg attacks and use my Dmg against me. Clerics, no way to be able to kill them alone. ^^ |

When I gank someone I wait for them to finish their mob, and ask for them to heal so I can get full AP
![]() Unless its a Cleric then I just ignore them. And my first skill will usually be something that interrupts their main combo (if possible), and Empyrean Armour + a pot. Last edited by Calindor; 11-09-2009 at 10:58 AM.. |
