First moves when someone tries to gank you?
Just curious as to what other Templars are doing when they are alone and get jumped in Abyss (other than run, he he). I've managed to kill more than I've been killed, and lately my survivability odds have increased significantly. Any tricks of the trade? My approach (as a lvl 32 templar with decent gear and inferno):
Insta Pot: As soon I get jumped, I instantly use a heal over time potion. I think using a potion immediately is key, because if the battle drags on, you have time to use more pots when the refresh time expires. Fly up if engaged with mob: The gankers ideal approach is to engage someone while the target is engaged with a mob. Consequently, whenever I'm engaged by a mob, if jumped, I instantly fly up and pop off a flight serum. By flying high enough, you disengage the mob, and instead of dealing with the player(s) and mob, you are only dealing with the the player. Assess the odds: Quick camera scan to see the odds. If one on one, 75% of the time I'll engage and go on the offensive. Sometimes the cowards get startled when you go on the offensive, and start running. If multiple, 90% of the time I'll start towards the exit plan. Engage: If I engage - instsa IJ. If it resists, the odds of running increase, as it increases the odds that the ganker is higher level. If it hits, follow with a stun. When grinding in in Abyss, I always withhold using one stun and empyrian armor on regular mobs so I can use them if jumped. Assuming IJ and a stun hits - kill ![]() Run: I have three options when running: (1) to the nearest tower or friendly fortress, (2) to nearby Elyos friendlies, hoping they see what is going on and engage, (3) under the land mass and try to outrun and outfly. IF I head to a tower, I almost always try to fly ABOVE the tower, because I've noticed that gankers are less likely to consider the tower in flight, as they don't see it or forget about it. Killed many chasers by flying them straight to the tower. Just some random stuff I do when getting jumped. Would love to hear some detailed analysis on what other templars are doing. |

If it’s any kind of melee attack, I generally finish the mob I’m killing then turn and look at the idiot who wants to die. I give him a cold hard stare, and if he hasn’t run away by the sheer terror of my manly aura, I just assume he must have some sort of mental problems and swiftly put him out of his misery.
If it’s a sorc or SM, I take advantage of the fact that I have a mob hitting me for piddles of damage and activating my shield block moves for me so that I may swiftly and surely teach the idiot not to make that mistake again. If it’s a cleric I run for the hills. If there are no hills, I fly for the sun and melt my wax wings. |

I lol'd.
As for real advice, I have none, since I've mostly avoided the abyss up until now! I'm here to read, more than anything~ Edit: though I agree about the potions, I started doing that automatically due to my time as a Guild Wars monk. Why let your health drop to begin with if you can keep it over 3/4ths to begin with? Then by the time you have to pop Empyrean, they had to work against regen just to get you there...__________________ ![]() You'll know I'm dead when I stop collecting my pay. Run away like the pathetic, scared Templar everyone thinks I am... Or at least appear to be. It's been my experience that most players do lots of stupid things (like blowing all of their cooldowns) when they think the enemy is running for it. A ranger or Sorc whose used their CC abilities just to 'stay in range' is a dead one.

As someone who's still stuck smacking someone with my mace for half of my attacks, for similar reasons I get a little happy tingle when those classes close in. Less work to chase them down.

I keep a HoT potion ticking permanently as soon as I am being attacked and then I try to close in to get some damage done. Usually this involves popping emp when I'm at around 3/4HP and popping unwavering devotion. If I manage to actually reach the attacker, then I keep at it for the kill, saving IJ and Charge till they start running away. If I CANT close the gap... damn sorcs... and I realize its a hopeless fight, I just book it outta there popping charge and iron skin if I have to. |

I usually pop my armor so I am taking 50% less damage for 3 minutes and then figure out what's going on. If I am still confused I pop Iron Skin to give me another couple minutes to decide what's really going on. If I can't figure it out in that time then I start rolling my face on the keyboard until I win or lose.
