Do I have to mark every MoB for eternity?

I personally cant stand marking mobs for CC. I played EQ for 8 years and it was never my job as a tank to designate which mobs would be CCed the majority of the time. In EQ it was the CC person themselves that called out the CC or the pullers. When I switched to WoW I always made the healer group leader so they could mark because they usually knew which ones needed to be killed first cause they caused most damage. Here if I roll a Templar do I have to mark mobs?

To sum this up I wont to make a templar cause I like tanking but I dont want to mark 700 mobs in kill order a day.

generaly yes, as you are the tank the most situational understanding is needed by you. thats just in the job description. knowing which mobs are likly to insta-gib when Cc wears off, which mobs can be burned which mobs can dispell CC is realy not that hard, and its not the straw that breaks the back either. if there is anything for us (and healers) to QQ about its xp loss in groups, the 2 classes who need groups the most also gain the least xp in them due to dps getting away while tank holds mobs and healer keeps him up, or the fact that its imposible to have more than 1 templar per seidge get gold medals if any wheras healers/dps get silvers like candy (half million kinah candy to be sure) and golds are rediculusly valuable. so...go QQ about one of those clicking the 3 buttons to mark is hardly an issue compared to those

I just have a bad time marking mobs from past experience. I guess after you get use to what needs to die first then you get better. But I dont wanna be that guy that goes to an instance for the first time and doesnt mark right and gets facepalmed by every other group mate. If its my first time should I just be upfront and say I really have no clue which mobs need to die? So far this game doesnt have the resources WoW had regarding in game instance and raid guides.

Mark the mob to hit as 1.

This is even unnecessary, since anyone with vision can see which monster the tank is attacking.

Any idiots who can't figure out which mob to hit and which others to CC should quit playing and give people with an IQ above 80 a break.

OK my IQ is only 130 so I know Im far from genius. So your saying if its my fisrt run ever in an instance I should already know which mobs to mark? So far I have only been able to find a decent guide to Fire Temple. I guess everything else is mark and hope I marked right. I know at lower levels its mark anything as attack and ZzZ as sleep but im sure 40+ instances require more than 1-2 marks.

Templars dictate the pace of pulling. If you're not willing to mark, all you do is increase the chance that the group will be slower than it should be because you now have two people who dictate the pace of pulling.

MrTickles that is a little inconsiderate of the CC classes cause ive been in plenty of groups where even with the targets marked the tank always seemed to attack the slept mob, and by what you say its my fault that some1 else attacked the wrong target?

I have noticed in every MMO EQ,WoW, this one that no matter how hard you try to say what mob should be CCed they always attack the CCed one and let them both rape.

One thing i saw a templar do was mark, IJ the CC target, then run in and tank everything else, so that the mob to be CCd was far away from the rest of the group, and none of those pesky gladiators could aoe it.

Oh well 1 level from ascension guess I will go templar. I assume I will figure it all out eventually. I mean in the history of MMOs im sure there was never a tank that did everything perfectly right on his first run.

I bind shift-1, shift-2 etc to the marks. I have every mark on a number key, but the important ones are

shift-3 skull (the kill target
shift-4 zzz (sleep target
shift-5 down pointing arrow (alternative sleep target if there is more than one sorc

then shift 1 and 2 are the numbers 1 and 2 in the little shield, i rarely use those but they are there just for easy access.

I usually brand the cleric with a smiley face =P

Usually after a run or two the group knows what to do and I no longer have to mark. But for the first run it is always best to be safe and mark everything.

It's not that hard to mark, really. Templars don't have that super amount of abilities like say, a Spiritmasters so you can even put the marks in your bar. You can use only 3 - Sleep, Skull and Arrow (or another of your preference). You can mark only sleep if you're lazy.

In the groups I go as a Sorcerer I eventually mark too. Clerics, Templars and Sorcerers generally know what to do (or should) so you can leave the marking with any of them... or you can ask someone who already did the place and isn't a complete retard to mark. Really. 3 buttons.
