Separate Gear sets for DPS or Tanking?
So at L23 now I'm making pretty much all of my own armor. It wouldn't be a big deal to roll off an additional piece of plate every time I make myself a piece of gear (it even gives me a better chance to crit a higher level piece). I'm wondering if I should build up a second set of gear that's socketed with +hit and +crit for DPS/soloing?
I primarily built this character for PvE tanking. It's what I enjoy and my first choice of any activity. There are however points where I need to solo or join a group as DPS instead of tanking. Does anyone else keep different gear sets? Would a dedicated set of DPS gear be worth it? What kind of stats should I stack on it? |

Since about lvl35 I started keeping items which had nearly the same stats so I could create a +HP set for tanking (I believe in hp instead of block but lets not go into that discussion) and +crit for solo.
However I quickly found out that with all the +HP gear I had a REALLY hard time keeping aggro! I only swapped on the HP gear for big packs and bosses and many ppl I grouped with told me they were impressed with how well I could keep aggro (when wearing crit gear) compared to templars they had who had HP or block gear. Specially nowadays lvl42+ I just don't bother with my HP gear anymore unless its a single target boss fight since on 2~4 mobs I just need the crits (or attack if you prefere that) to keep aggro on the kill target while using most of my taunts on the CC'd//off targets. If you're crafting gear, just go for offensive stats, those items contain a lot of HP already as secondary stat and IMO your job is to keep aggro, staying alive is the cleric/chanters job mostly! |

Dont think its really needed at lower levels, you can tank etc just fine with Crit gear from what I've seen.
Probobly wont be worth it until end game if you start raiding, maybe.. *shrugs* __________________ Just like pirates, geeks are engaged in a lifelong search for large chests and lots of booty. |

likewise. Can tank FT no problem with a decent healer. Still trying to figure out if +Attack is more beneficial than +Crit or if there's some magic balance.

Had no problems doing the 20-39 instances with 75% crit 25% SD manastones, with mostly chanter healers too.
Right now im changing my crit stones with HP ones as im seeing some attack doing upwards of 5k, which is roughtly 80-90% of my unbuffed HP. Would like to get something along the lines of 60-70% HP and the rest in SB. Id recommend going mostly crit until late 30s and then swapping them out for some HP or more SD for the 40-50 instance grind, and then at 50 working on 2 sets of armor. As for ATK vs Crit, its been said that at low lvls ATK dosent scale well, and that you should just go all crit. End game you should be 1 for 1 for 1, ATK vs Crit vs SD...or so the koreans say. __________________

Crit stones drop from mobs - use them (oh, just a friendly reminder :P)
I only bought ~6 stones in time in Aion (stupid blue breastplate - kept breaking them...). But it's up to you and your friends how you obtain them (no other meele in my friends circle, so most of the crit stones get to me when I ask for them). |

None of the top Templars on my server use separate sets for tanking/DPS. Their normal set is just pure DPS, and they use it for tanking everything from the world bosses, Theobomos Instance, and Dark Poeta. In fact, for Dark Poeta, your Templar needs to deal as much damage as possible in order to get a good Rank.

I don't like socketing crit instead of HP or block for tanking so I've started collecting a second set of gear in the mid-30s with crit stones and I use inferno and a second shield socketed with crit too so that soloing isn't so tedious. (I use a Mace for tanking ... I much prefer maces for the higher more consistent base damage (I really notice this comparing white damage between the sword and the mace) and +accuracy ... I'm afraid I think the 'tanks must use swords', 'any tank using a mace is a noob' crowd running around on these forums don't know what they're talking about ... maces are perfectly viable.)
Because I socket accuracy to be sure all my attacks are landing I have absolutely no problem holding agro against DPS 3 or 4 levels above me either (I'm saying 3 or 4 because I don't run with a people with a bigger level gap because of the XP penalties though as 4 levels isn't a problem I'd imagine the gap could go higher) ... I feel I'm leaving nothing to chance with accuracy ... and the difference is noticeable when I swap into my crit gear with attacks not landing (which I haven't seen happen in my tanking gear for many levels despite tanking things as much as 6 or 7 levels above me) and I also get many more shield skill procs when in tanking gear (which also helps build a lot of enmity). I've also had healers comment that they have a much easier time healing me than they do other tanks of equivalent or sometimes higher level so I'm not really sure I buy the 'your job is to hold agro ... if the healer can't keep you alive that's their problem not yours' school of thought. If you're making the healer's life difficult by taking too much damage or not having a large enough pool of health to survive burst damage then I think you're a bad tank. So yes ... I'm swapping out usually 1h, shield, neck and 2x ear-rings and maybe 1 or two pieces of armour depending on whether I'm DPSing (and by that I mean solo not in a party lol) or Tanking. __________________
