Leveling Templar

Hi,
I have a lvl 22 templar, which is leveling really slow compared to my 28 ranger. Will it become better (before 40), or will we struggle the whole time?
Bare in mind I do not have the best gear.

Of course it will be slow, Templars are designed to take damage not dish it out. I haven't played a Ranger so i can't compare downtimes but with decent armour and a good shield you can plough through dozens of mobs before you need to stop and rest.

What do you mean "struggle"? I have had a pretty smooth time leveling to 24 on 2 hours a day at best just questing and keeping my gathering above the area i am in. All solo except for 1-2 groups for the krall quests in turisin area. try to make sure you are questing in areas at or at least 1 level above you and get a good skill cycle down and it goes "like buttah."

Also, are you holding back buying gear to raise kinah? I always check the broker for fresh gear at each level to make sure I stay above the game, that helps a lot as well. And being a smart shopper, i still have over 200k kinah most of the time (and no, no gold purchased :-P)

Only problem i have is the @$$holes that kill steal off me for quest mobs. Its easy to get KS'd by true DPS classes even if you are 75% thru the mobs HP already (glad bots and SM/Sorc steal off me a lot... /sadpanda)

I have alts in most other classes, but I have enjoyed the templar far more for some reason. Kinda a pace change from the face mashing and healing I normaly chose to do in "that other MMO of which seems to be forbidden to speak of here." (dual spec shaman FTW)

Don't spend every kinah you have at the broker.... Your just going to hate yourself later down the road.

For leveling when using sword and board of course you kill slower, however the nice thing at 45+ you kill all means of downtime unless you do tons of 2+ pulls. ATM I'm running around at 48 with a greatsword and well I can grind more xp in 1 hour then my soc friend =D (Also no down time what so ever) I think for sin they kill mobs 2-3 sec faster then me.

/agree, but you want to keep your gear w/in 2-4 levels. It'll make the grind a little bit easier. I spent maybe 15-20k per level max from 10-20 then from there its been about 30-40k per, and i have yet to fall below 200k in the last 3 levels. Kinah is like water if your willing to put a little time in at the spring...

And like I said, be a wal-mart shopper and keep an eye out for cheap gear sellers. Broker newbs will often post good gear cheap or try to undercut someone else and go below vendor sale.

Agree with that too, all blues that i bought at brocker was 2-3 times cheapier their normal price. Well, last two weeks ppls learned their mistakes, i rarely see low prises for now

Nope, lvling won't become better. Templar's fastest lvling only in grp. Even with atk/crit stones still it's slower than other classes with equal gear.

It will get better once you get your hands on the famous Inferno.

22-25: Do all the quests in Theobomos/Eltnen Forest that do now require you to kill mobs having two times the amount of HP as the ones directly nearby. (e.g. Kill Raptors, NOT Warans)

25-29: Run NTC every day and get in touch with people who know how to play their class and sort out the ones who don't. FL them for later grouping.

29-32: Kaidan Mine, Eracus Temple, Kyota Temple - a lot of group quests to do here and you will have to farm you FT key anyway. On my server there is a huge demand on tanks for these zones every day, every hour, every minute.

32: Do the quest for your Inferno and start rocking this game. Using some pots, you should be able to solo this but asking your cleric friend (you met while running NTC) will speed things up considerably.

I'm sitting at 36 now and kill things faster than a spirit master for example. I must have really, really bad luck if any mob up to 2 levels above is not dead before IJ cd is over. That is 15-25 seconds per mob depending on Face Smash => Break Power proc/not proc, continuously. No downtime. HP loss is easily compensated by EA + some of the cheapest HP recovery potions every now an then, cause I am too lazy to stop for Herbal Threatment. ;o)

Should get better as you go into your mid-to-late twenties. At that level range, you're more or less stuck with solo questing. Later on, you're blasted with so many new group grinding areas it will hurt your brain.

25: Nocshana Training Grounds (aka TG / NTC): 18 hour lockout, but AMAZING exp (can net you almost an entire level in under 2 hours).

26: Kaidan Mine. Decent exp, but not the greatest. Very few quests here, but you may get lucky with boss drops.

28: Eracus Temple. AMAZING EXP. Unfortunately, most PuGs just want to do the quests, which are literally HALF the exp compared to grinding. Grind on the bottom floor rather than the platforms. You may also see Kratia around, she drops blue weapons for all classes plus some amazing headgear.

30ish: Fire Temple. lolterrible exp and almost 0 chance of getting a gold drop off Kromede. However, the greens/blues from the minibosses are pretty reliable drops, and very nice. Farming the key to get into fire temple is actually a LOT better exp than FT itself.

Yeah I'm level 37 (almost 38 atm), compared to my DPS friends I do level slower, but they just have to wait for me to catch up anyhow. Comparing to ranger, we don't really get the lotto 1 billion damage shots so of course it'll be slower. Best thing you can do really is pop consumables, sit back and enjoy the ride, so what if all the dps hit 50 fast, they'll just have to wait for us anyhow.

Ooops...your mini profile says Elyos, that's why I mentioned Inferno.

So I guess your best chances are to hope for Nochsana Chief to drop gold or craft/buy a blue Noble Sword at lvl 30.

Ya beeing asmo templar sucks, you are the slow leveling class of your race of the race wich levels slower (quests are worse than the elyos quest, at least until 26thats how far i tried both sides) and you got nyerked in the face by the game "balance" as you meet a lvl 32 elyos templar and he rapes you badly with well...auto attack... because his weapon is at least 5level higher than yours could possibly be and you know he will level faster than you.
Same problem with the next good weapon, but be happy you will get it too and only1- 2d playtime after the elyos (2level)

What i really wanted to say: Dont ge the lvl30noble, get the lvl25noble->its nearly as good, you can enchant it and use it longer (since its an expensive thing).

They dont wait, they farm ap
That means they got theyr abyss equip sooner than you but thats not important since you can tank without it

In the End its a difference of maybe 3d playtime even if it feels like your only making half the ep it isnt that bad, im grinding in mid 30ies(worst templar time) with the lvl25noble titanium sword and i wouldnt say its sooo damn slow, the mobs (chosen the right ones) go down
Its not comparable to elite grinding as range dd or melee dd with a range dd but i hope you knew that before and as long as you have fun while grinding as templar go for it, if you feel like dying even in the 20ies reroll.
Personally i really like the Spartan Move and Shield skills and cool fast attacks but ya especially being spartan
