Equal gear, when can a templar beat a gladiator?
Gladiator PVE kills maybe 2 or 3 times faster than a Templar.
They have about the same defence[thanks to plate], but templar has a chance to block. PVP Gladiator totally busts the fk out of templars. My friend who is a templar of equal level to me right now barely dings my health.[And he's suppose to be the tank!] My question is simple and short. When can the templar start beating the gladiator? I am aware that me and my friend are still relatively low level. But WHEN.....does the templar start getting skills that actually help him pwn? The 2nd point is....if the Gladiator pwns the templar now, isn't it just a slippery slope from here on out where the templar can never catch up to the gladiator? |

Templars ramp up their defensive abilities a lot faster than Gladiators do - they're only close at low levels because they share the same root. My understanding is that at mid-high levels a properly built Templar can pretty much take out any melee class in PvP. Based on the skill tree, I'd say Templars really aren't well rounded for PvP until they get their level 22 and 25 skills.
That said, keep in mind that Templars are a Tank class and tanking is largely a PvE concept (players tend to ignore the tank and go after the squishies regardless). __________________ ![]() When all else fails, send a Templar. |

Templars do solid damage - especially if you bring all the shield skills into play, which is easy when fighting a melee class. You don't have to take the glad down fast - you just have to take him down faster than he can take you down.

Your friend is doing it wrong. If you're both equal in level and over lvl 25, and he still loses to you, he is NOT a gamer. I love to strut around with my Temp, in the knowledge that YES a Gladiator may kill that enemy a little faster than me, but if he swings his Polearm in my direction i can garuntee that i'll put him on his a-s-s in a duel. __________________

this is 2nd hand info that I have researched, but like these others have posted; the templar really shines when they get their sheild blocks. a lot of their offense and other skills come from being hit by melee. so a melee class such as the glad will be a perfect target for a temp. that is, after they get those sheild skills post 25.

Wait until endgame before trying to work the classes out.. Very often endgame gear choices really push your skill abilities and define your role(s)..

MMORPG player =/= gamer Me beating him up in an MMORPG doesn't make me a more skilled player than he is. I am already aware that Templar will get more skills later on, and I already suspected the templar should be able to beat the gladiator eventually. I was just curious "when". Thanks for the input guys. Just curious though, if someone could confirm or verify this for me. I am aware 2 hand weapons have a random chance for knockdown, if critted. If you block someone's crit, is there still a chance you'll be knocked down? |

On a note, did your templar friend bought up to date skills? you can get skills from the warrior you will meet first at the beginning of Sanctum, though what some don't know is that the skill vendor that is in the protectors hall has more skills for sale. These skills are like passive buffs for HP and defense and some others.
Also, Templars damage mostly come from using shield counter skills, the regular sword hit on other plate users is low compared to 2handed swords. That is why you need to use templar shield counter skils along with the skill Shield defense. Shield defense is a overpowered skill, if used a lot, it will make you block a lot more, it will make you survive a lot longer and combined with the templars race buff (boost Hp by 50% and gives godly hp regen) the hits from a Gladiator are easily healed because of the damage reduction from blocks and the high hp regen. I have beaten Gladiators at 16-18 on my lvl 17 Templar so I don't know how your friend played. All I think off now is he didn't use all the skills he had access to. For me its more like "Equal gear, when can a gladiator beat a templar?" It's hard to decide which class is better at lower lvls (1-20) In end game its about gear, skill and experienced play style. |
