what's the point of lots of customization when all people are gonna do is find the "cookie-cutter" way of doing things anyways.

example: guild wars, world of warcrap.

With more custimization there might just not be 1 cookie cutter build. Plus many people just don't want to be like everyone else.

In WoW there was a Cookie cutter build for every spec. 1\5 People might deviate depending on the situation they are in. Ex. Multiples of class in the same raid so they might not need to take a debuff/buff because the other guy has it.

The second sentence in your post is an ironic one. I am not picking on you, but people want to be different, that is true. At the same time, there are people who see others of the same class putting out much better DPS, or dominating on the field. People think it is the combination of talents, achievements, stones, etc... and they will copy it. It could just be the person is more skilled, knows what they are doing, or it could be that it is the best combination.

Then you also get the calling for the nerf/buff bat. "This spec/tree is a lot more gimp than the other! I like the way this one plays better, so either nerf that one, or buff this one!" I think it is much easier the way they have it now.

The customization in this game has 2 completely different aspects. You have the cosmetic customization. Then the stone and stigma customization. I don't think people will have a problem standing out from others.

yes and no, the truth is virtually EVERY class will stack either HP or Crit manastones

Templar - Crit
Glad- Crit
Sin - Crit
SM - HP
Sorc - HP
Ranger- Crit / acc

Healers.. who knows I assume HPs for pvp

Im starting to think the stone system is somewhat of a failure when you take into account everyone has to stack the same thing to be competitive. New stigmas with 1.5 + elite stigmas is a "start" but even this stigmas are somewhat lackluster when you consider 80 percent of classes will all be choosing the same builds.

What needs to happen is have different crit caps on different classes, Have parry / shield block more usefull for templars. Parry for Glads.

As of now HP and Crit stones are the ONLY ones viable since they provide the most improvement on your character.

Mana regen or something for healers, etc.

I love Aion but of all the games Ive played this is the most linear as far as character progression is concerned.

Quote:
With the typical Tree specs theres usually 1-2 ways to go with your toon, sometimes 3 with the manastones theres limitless ways
I dont agree with this really, everyone will stack pretty much the same type of stone in ALL of those slots until softcaps are reached. Too much variation in all those slots wont provide any returns to make it worth while. I.E. the stats in the stones dont provide enough "kick"

As of now Im playing a AM in Caion and I find it sad that to be competitive in ANY way I need to use every single one of my slots for Hit Points to avoid getting killed in 3 seconds by ganks. Id love to be able to customize my mana pool, my mana regeneration, magic boost etc etc but sadly the game is not like that as of now.

yeah manastone = critstones =P

Sigmas also are cookie cutter, with a number considered 'must have', maybe you have one or two slots to tailor to your style but even then you are switching between a couple highly held ones.

The customization is in how you play, basically. You cant blame spec, gear will be mostly the same once everyone 'gets up there'.

The difference is YOU.
