Templar 2h Questions

For PVP,

Is a lvl 50 Templar with a 2 hand sword just gimping himself? I've heard someone say in another thread that they do comparable damage but are seconds off with the gladiator.

This doesn't make sense to me cause you'd trade mass survivability for few seconds of dps.

The main reason is because you can switch weapons in combat. You're gimping yourself in the long run to only play 2h, because you miss out on so much defense and the many, many skill that require a shield, but quickly switching to get a blast with a 2h weapon, or that sweet 3 second stun that requires a 2h weapon may save you. You can just switch back to sword/shield once you've gotten the skill you need off.

Yup, also better to use 2 hand sword on magic classes considering a shield does nothing to help us vs magic.

2h weapon is only good to use when fighting sorcerer, but u still need to switch back to sword/shield to stun them and finish them off

That's not true, for one, you can use shields with magic resis or physical resis. And secondly of course shield skills like Shield Bash are superb against casters..

I dont think you'll gimp yourself if you use it at the right situation. A 2handed templar has an additional sigma skill (divine slash) where you can deal insane amount of damage if your crit. At level 30, I hit a sorc for 1500 while chasing him but I believe that was a lucky one. At level 50, who knows?

I've literally 2 shot a Sorc 3 lvls higher than me at lvl 28 using a 2h because I used Divine Slash and Flash Slash back to back and they both crit. Was like "PWND!!!!!!"

lol that flash slash... the most random skill in the game,u got crit dmg between 70-----2k dmg but still its the major dmg skill for a templar at current stage.

but one thing i hav to mention, great sword has low crit dmg comparing to long sword, and you can have extra manastone slot with sword/shield equiped

I guess I should have been more clear. Shields CAN'T block magic attacks so why not using the weapon that will allow you to kill the casters faster?

From dueling as melee you'll know that you spend a lot of your time CC'd or slowed and out of melee range getting nuked upon. You don't want to be running around with a 2H. You want to switch into it for a few seconds every once in a while if you're in range. Better to have the shield with the magic resis for most the fight.

My gold 2 handed sword does just fine against squishy targets and armor of balance helps a lot with CC. Let me repeat for you, shields don't block magical attacks so it is not necessary to use one while fighting a caster. I do much better using 2 handed sword over a shield in such cases.

But again shields can boost your magic resis (<==this is a stat, I don't think you understood that in my last post) which mitigates damage. I think you miss the point - if you're running around of range getting nuked with a 2H you're taking more damage. It'd be silly to not switch weapons, one set for in range, another for out of range.

Why did they even bother putting 2H swords in the game? Templars hardly use them and Glads seem to think they are useless...

Apart from the 3 sec stun move you get using a 2H sword it sucks so much you don't wanna run around with it.
Most of our defensive tools "need" (notice the apostrophes) a shield equiped.
You don't need to tell us again we can't block spell but still its a prerequisite for some of our moves ..
