It is true. Low level Gladiators arent good 1vs1. But end game glads can go toe to toe with any class if played well. I dont know where people get this idea that Gladiators suck. Every class has their ups and downs. Thats the way the game is supposed to go.

Gladiator all the way. Their attacks are gorgeous, and nothing is cooler than someone in armor carrying a huge spear around.

Have always played and enjoyed heavy-melee classes. Templar here as I love collecting epic shields in games but if there's time, I'll probably roll a Guardian too as I love 2H weapons as well... Hope we'll have enough inventory slots in this game...>.<

equal gear, templar has the slowest killing speed of all classes. thats proved... since i have a 41 templar,3x assasin,3x chanter,2x cleric, i hav to judge that templar is the slowest especially if you dont have the gear that match to your level, and your manastone is not correctly build. then probably you have to rest every 2 monsters, and ,and it might take 40sec --1min to take down 1 monster. |

I'm really torn as to which class to pick as well. My main concern when picking a class is how they perform in PvP. I enjoy being a cornerstone of battle, I like affecting the ebb and flow of combat. Thus, I like classes with superior survivability, yet I do not like hitting like a wet noodle. I know that you're sacrificing some DPS if you want to be a Templar, but you're gaining a significant amount of survivability. Looking between the two skill sets, do Glads really gain that much more DPS for the sacrifice of survivability to be worth it? I'm not so sure.
Templars get some utility that Glads do not, namely more self heals, extra CC breaks and immunities, not to mention the damage mitigation buffs. Templars also get a lot of debuffs. These debuffs used in succession with the self mitigation buffs would make the Templar a *************** to kill. I hear Templars get kited a lot, but looking at their skills I have to wonder if they still get kited at higher levels. They have a lot of ways to break CC, the problem might be in keeping their target in range. Gladiators obviously get more more DPS and what looks like more CC than the Templar. They have several roots and a snare. Gladiators also get a lot of knockdowns, but I hear they're unreliable. The Gladiator at a glance looks like it has the tools necessary to keep an opponent within range once they close the distance, which is very important in PvP. Even if you can't close the range, Glads have a couple ranged attacks. The biggest appeal of Glads for me is the spear and AoE. Spears are by far my favourite weapon and being able to wade into a crowd and damage everything around me is pretty awesome. Both have their appeals, but I still can't choose. I know I'll get mocked for this, but 1v1 ability is tantamount for me, thus I'm leaning towards the Templar because of their skills. However the Gladiator's choice of weapon made the Gladiator the first class I was interested in. I wish the beta weekend let us go further than level 10, I can't really learn much about either class at that level Videos just don't cut it, because most of them just show low level ganking or exceedingly one sided fights. |

I see where you're coming from Ragnar. Something I've learned over the years of wasting my life on games is to follow your heart. The way I see it, your true spec is buried deep inside you, and its only unleashed once you realize what it is. For me, I know what my true spec is because I'm will to always go the extra mile to better myself in that field, whether is learning a better rotation, spending lots of gold on a minor upgrade, or actually getting an adrenaline rush from running around picking up adds to save the asses of the "squishies". Hopefully you'll know soon enough. Oddly enough I'm going gladiator, tankings great but I want to have fun this time =) __________________ Thou shalt not ration justice.

What makes you think that templars are great in all 1v1 situations? did you watch those korean tournament videos? Note that that was an arena situation and i don't really see it as a 1V1 situation by large. Unless you like to go around dueling your own race, most of your 1v1 gameplay will be spent in the Abyss while you're trying to get to some where to do your quest or solo leveling. As the aggressor, an attacking templar is weaker than you think although the aerial combat system gives more advantage to the aggressor. You have one CC skill that has a failure rate and that means you can't really CC well to finish off others. If you can't get close enough, you can't get the kill If you are defending in 1v1, you will have high survivability but unless the aggressor is a noob, i doubt you can kill him as you will be getting kited over and over again as he takes off for the sky. You sound like you need a more versatile character and definitely gladiator suits you more. you can 1v1 better with a gladiator if you know how to play it. If you are skillful, I don't see why you can't kill off a templar with a gladiator. I could kill off a level 45 templar as a level 42 gladiator. Use your ranged attack (wing blade and to a certain extent AOE swing) and ankle snear well, you can easily kill off any templar. When you can reduce his HP to a certain amount and after he used his healing skills (divine armor or divine hand), get your aerial shackle up and he's basically finished. Aerial shackle + 1 hit + 1 slam down can shave 2000-3000 off his HP. However note that a well-specced templar is hard to deal with. |
