If your undecided, than there should be a third option for undecided, and maybe a fourth for other.
I choose templar because I want to play a team role, and have some supportive value which I can use for a special someone. As for you, it depends on what you like, if you like being more than just an attacker, and enjoy saving allies as well as attacking foes, Templars the choice. If you like it simple and you like just wailing on your foe, and looking the best at it, Gladiator is your choice, especially if you like it simple, since a Templar has legitimate responsibilities, a Gladiator just has to button mash. __________________ ![]() May the Balaur overcome ALL! Uh, I'd say the last thing Gladiator will be is "simple," Bahamut. It's going to be the most hybrid class in the game, giving players all sorts of suitable builds to choose, and multiple ones at that. It'll be dynamic because on those days when the tank(s) fall, the Glad must step up, switch to Sword+Shield and take the hit. In certain situations they'll be a DPS class, and other times a quick high damage DPS (Dual Wielding). It'll be interesting to see how versatile Gladiators will be.

OMFGLOLROFLz0r! 1,8k! *orgasmofhighnumbers* ... *hit hit hit hit hit... .. . brb again* Owned. To me it doesn't look like that playing Glad will be that much of a difference compared to Templar. I mean sure, it's another role, but I don't think it will be more or less button smashing than Templar in the end, since everyone has to combo and use certain kind of Skills. But meh, I'm not putting too much trust into that, maybe they will just end up completely gimped gameplay-wise like WAR in FFXI was. Besides BLM (I've read through Faust while still playing it efficiently), the most boring class ever. Last edited by Endrance; 05-06-2008 at 06:56 AM.. |

I choose templar because i like my character to not have an absolutely humongous weapon, and templars seem to have faster atk speed.

Or maybe, just maybe, it won't be anything like WAR in FFXI and everything like WAR in WoW? You know, where you can be the main tank or a damage dealing powerhouse with the potential to assist in tanking when needed.
WAR in FFXI can barely take a hit without Utsusemi and is really just a melee damage dealer among other melee damage dealers, most of which are incredibly simple to play just like you described. __________________ ![]() Sig by HunterX

Because of the limitation in character classes, I'm guessing Gladiator will be like Warrior in FFXI, which means they have tanking abilities, but woln't be qualifed to use them, either because they lack some defense, or they lack the potency.
Reguardless, backup roles are not typical roles, and the typical role is hack and slash, so it will be simple. __________________ ![]() May the Balaur overcome ALL! Mua Ha Ha Ha Ha! |

Gladiator because I think they'll be better with poles
I'll play a gladiator and box another gladiator (or a chanter/healer). Poles rule for spreading out your damage on mobs. 2 poles rule for pulling dungeons (as long as you have 2 support characters playing in your party).
I posted in some other thread about one L2 2box combo that really gave me an adrenaline rush (warsmith & scav), both with poles. But you also need 2 live support charactes to pull 4 to 6 rooms in a dungeon, because you'll die too quickly otherwise. __________________ ElDurango From Lineage II to Aion => the greatest games |

I don't really think there's a point to play a Gladiator with a sword and shield. If you really want to focus on such set, I would pick Templar since it's specifically designed for it. Still, if you plan on using them as an alternative or combo tool, then it's fine.

Templars looks more flexible and useful.
Main tank, great for party pvp with dmg transfer skill, a lot of melee debuffs, and can use 2h swords with skills specially designed for that, to deal decent dmg. Plus it will rape gladiator in 1v1. Anyway, this thread is pointless, most of people choose pure dd class. |

Im going gladiator for the visuals, i could hit for crap on anything with my shiney 2h of lightining doom, but dang it i got a 2h of lightining doom aint that awesome??
That and its unlikely the class could be UP. Warrior based classes always have a scaling advantage. |

You still don't have enough information to state such thing.
