PvP class?

I usually play a warrior class in mmo's, not tank but gladiator type char's. They have always been only alright, naturally the skill of the player matters and ive been watching some pvp videos on youtube and they seem to hold there own. Then again how do i know its not that the person playing the gladiator isn't just simply better than the other person playing. Also I've always noticed gladiator limitations compared to others. Not too sure what ppl think but it seems sometimes the middle ground doesnt work out. (middle ground as in half damage half protection) At least not in pvp, i could be wrong.

I just wanted to add to my post. Ive been thinking about an arhcer or sorc even though this isnt the place necessarily to post something about either of those. I just have doubts based on movies ive seen on youtube about them, though once again it could be simply because the person playing sucked. They just didnt seem overly promising any comments feel free.

No other game, no matter how similar it may seem, can tell you, without playing, what the balancing in this one will be like. You're just going to have to play and feel it out. Hopefully all the classes are viable in PvE and PvP.

Skill is a big factor in MMOs like Lineage 2 and Aion

If you are good with the build you have, you are good with your character, you will be good in PvP.

its a simple concept.

ROFL @ skill in L2. there is no skill involved in macro spamming pots and overpowered and unbalanced epics/buffs.

If Aion is actually somewhat balanced (which it has a shot at with lower number of classes) and you do more than spam 1 or 2 skills then sure. I however feel Stigmas, though a cool idea, will have a great many balance issues.

Skill is a term I typically reserve for games with even playing fields. IE. RL sports or FPS games. MMOs simply have too many variables.

When other people have epics and macro spam CP pots there is.

Just like there no skill rolling over someone in T1 raid gear in WoW when you have S4 arena gear on or something.

I'm not a fan of pot spamming, nor seeing people with welfare epics, but don't know half their class functions.

While skill does play a factor in-game over gear, it's pretty slim unless the person you're fighting is a retard and you won by pure luck.

Getting out-geared sucks, but it's really fun rolling over someone in top epics, really slaps them in the face like a wake-up call.

T1 raid gear is level 60, S4 is level 70. Indeed there would be no fun =) Sorry, I couldn't resist... even though it doesn't effect your point in the least. I did it for the lulz.

i know what all of u are saying and skill is a big factor but as said before, in a different way though, skill is limited in mmos. there's only so much u can do with your class if your fighting someone op. now in many mmo's that ive played the warrior is my favorite class to choose for the armor and weapons they use plus the survivability, but they usually get gimped and dont do just quite enough damage honestly i hope that for once a gladiator can compete against other classes. they can always beat an assassin unless completely outgeared or the one playing the warrior just sucks. other classes on the other hand tend to pose a problem. the problem with gladiators it seems to me is unlike assassins who are invisible until they decide to strike your always seen but u have the heavy armor to make up for that i suppose but not quite the tanking abilities of a templar who cant hide or attack from a distance there poses the problem u have to be close to someone to hit them but cant take THAT many hits so it always seems to be the class that gets the gimp. perhaps i will just make a gladiator and a sorc but that also leads to a problem i dont have all the time in the world to be making 2 characters that can compete at the top with all the other fiends.

I can't quite agree with the skill not playing a role matter. Especially in L2 I have seen ppl that were outgeared beat their opponent, cause the other 1 had no clue what he was doing. Also Terrain can be used to your advantage and ppl tend to forget that.
Imo just wait and see when Aion is out, try out some classes and see which one you like the most. Because in the end you shuold enjoz playing that class and not just play it 2 be "uber" in PvP or whatever (often doesnt last longer than 1 Update anyways then you get nerfed

Which is the gap of the between B-graders (Tier 1) vs S-graders with boss jewels. (Level 70 S4).

Well what you are saying with the part i made bold is that that has either bought the character at a high level, just started playing or.. he just grinded, and he never actually played the game, wich means its the experience hes missing, not the skill.

Im sorry but there is SKILL involved in PvP maybe not as much as in a FPS and a fighting game but skill none the less.Kiting for example thats skill some think its a cheesey tactic but hey its skill how many times have we seen a archer stand still in a pvp fight? I dont think lack of experince has too much to do with that you dont stand still with mobs why would you stand still against other players? same can be said for a lot of classes like assassins who try to just beat down shield classes and get spanked SKILL is knowning your classes weakness and strengths as well as the class your fighting.in L2 there isnt much spamming well yes there is I wont lie but you know if a true pvp fight spamming wont get you very far.If you think I am wrong thats fine its my opinion so nah.But I still agree pvp takes skill as well as experince, adding the fact you can fly in combat in this game I think will raise the "skill" level just a bit higher.

I would like to think that the skill of a player should be very important in pvp, however I also beleive that it should be so that if a templar or another character built to deal with multiple opponents comes up against and assasin (a more 1v1 battle style) in a 1v1 fight that the Templar should be at quite a disadvantage.

The trick is to make sure that player skill is important, while retaining the fact that different classes are better or worse in different situations.

Lets back-track to the original theme of this thread... if the Gladiator class can hold itself in PvP.

From watching Gladiator PvP videos all I see are huge lucky hits and no stuns. I watch as they run around chasing after an archer and every 30 seconds you're lucky to see a hit before the goose chase is on again. There's a lack of stuns and distance attacks.

As much as I hate mentioning it, WoW did a great job balancing the warrior class to deal with range attackers, while I don't see too much of that going on for the Gladiator class in Aion.

But hey, only time will tell.
