Question: do the DoT/HoT spells start working from the moment you cast them or 1 sec later? As in the first effect takes place immediately after the cast is finished or a set time later?

Let's take the "Erosion" skill:

Quote:

Deals 101 damage and every 4 seconds additional 74 damage over 9 seconds.

1st second: 101 dmg
2nd second: -
3rd second: -
4th second: -
5th second: 74 dmg
6th second: -
7th second: -
8th second: -
9th second: 74 dmg

I'm not sure about that, but I think it's meant that way.

Haubix, I think he means to ask how the damage will occur: the instance you start making the spell animation (even if the spell animation is 1-2 seconds you make damage the instance you click the skill - 0.1sec), after a dev. set time after the start of the animation, or along with the animation - when the fire bolt hits that's when the damage is given.
Personally, I have no idea atm.

For example in guildwars if you have a dot spell of x damage each second, the first damage is done after 1 second not immediately (0.1sec) after the spell has been cast. If you have a dot spell with damage every y seconds, the first damage is done after y seconds.

Hope this cleared up the mess i made

Oh, I see. But the answer is the same. "1st second" is the second when the cast ended (=initial damage). So regarding your explanation it would be DOT applied - wait 3 secs - damage of 1st tick of the DOT - wait again 3 seconds - damage of the 2nd tick of the DOT - and so on...

But actually, we don't know how it's working ^^ Just guessing
