Hello Aionsource!

New Aion player here. My friend and I are going to be playing the game duo a lot (not leveling but everything else) and he decided on a Cleric. Now I know I'm going to play a Warrior type class but I need to figure out if I want to play the conservative yet misunderstood Templar or the brute strength Gladiator? I've tanked in MMOs before so I enjoy it but my biggest concern would be if I'm rifting with my Cleric partner, what would be my best choice?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times <3

Well the advantage templar has over gladiator is survivability. However, once in the higher levels, the gladiator can have similar HP to templar, similar passive defense abilities (you can play glad w/ a shield and sword, even), but lacks active defense. If your buddy is a cleric, I would go with gladiator. Gladiator puts out quite a bit more damage than templar, and at the end is nearly as good of a tank. I am a gladiator and very very happy with the decision. Pair me with a cleric and I destroy all in my path. Feel like superman.

Rifting then maybe templar.

Temps can pull opponents away from cleric, have bodyguard to protect the cleric, and can take care of himself for a while if the cleric for some reason cant heal his parter. Also, temp can dish out quite some damage as well if using a GS and spec for damage. Granted, glad can do everything nearly as good.

Pve then Glad, thats a no-brainer :)

If you want to tank pre 50, then Templar. If you want to tank on 50, then Glad. As glad, you have to convince most parties, that you actually CAN tank without the Templar's oh-sh.it buttons.

I would personally prefer a Glad over a Templar, because he deals more damage with equal equipment, people always tend to run from a Templar match.

Also, both classes are severely underpowered in terms of PvP below 40.

Right, but you can only pull one away, bodyguard is awesome, but I really prefer to crush the opponent instead of toying with him or her. As Templar, I only rifted once in a big raid to try this out. (a big mistake), but 2 days before today, I had a rift with a HP templar and he did get the damage quite well (people thought, he is solo), whilst I nuked them down. but really, he did little damage (comparing to my Templar).

So, in a average PvP match, the Glad kills and looses HP about 33% quicker than a Templar. So, unless your Cleric wants to go offense, you just loose DPS when choosing Temp. And AoE ability. And auto-crit knockdowns.

Def. Gladiator (and that's coming from a Templar ;)).

e: Also, you should get the Blue Lv 35 Attackspeed Polearm on +10. You'd deal about 600 Crit damage per skill on PvP opponents.

e2: This thread made me log on my Glad and I found a chanter to duo with for short time. It's awesome. Go for it.
