/select [%Group1] /changeweaponset /delay 1 /select [% previous target]
Spelling might be off, doing this from work. The delay might not have to be there or anything, but it will select myself and change the weapon right away, since you stop attacking once you change target. With or without the delay, the macro seems to work fine until it is told to go back to the previous target. I then tested the Heal Assist(?) macro out from the example tab and the [% previous target] I guess simply doesn't work. Because if an example of a macro doesn't work, then I'm going to assume that a custom made macro with the same attribute isn't going to work either. That adds another macro that doesn't work along with /Automaticselection or something like that.

I know a gladiator from my guild who switches weapons a lot, but he does it manually by right-clicking weapons in his inventory. (He keeps his inventory window open all the time.)

I know why conditional/loop statements aren't usable but it makes it a nuisance when trying to make something work without them. Basically you'll just have to do it manually to be 100% certain things work as planned.

Ok, when he/she switches item manually from the inventory, does it bug out if they are under attack?
Reason I say this is because then we could use the inventory switching macro so then we wouldn't have to keep the inventory up all of the time.

Shift + Z
is a default combo-command to switch weapons.

Edit: I was messing with this yesterday to make sure I could do it quickly. You can practically press shift and z at the same time and it will go through.

Ok, we know that you can do that... The issue is that there is a 'delay' if you will with either way of using Shift+Z or the button in the actions tab (which could be on the quick bar). The objective is how to make it so that you are guaranteed to get a weapon switch off without having that stupid message of "you can't do this at the moment".
