Difference between "Ping" and "fps"?

I see alot of people talking about ping, but i dont know how to measure mine.
What's usually the reason why people lag at sieges? Bad videocard/memory or internet connection?

I always have wondered what dictates performances at sieges, it seems to be the game engine (CryEngine, I think it is)that struggles at processing hundreds of models/skill animations all at once, or the fix that they applied to crashing at sieges; considering I've heard a number of people moaning about how they received high FPS at sieges prior to the fix, and then after receving monumentally less.

If you experience lag between clicking Skill X and Skill X activating, its ping related.
If you don't get to see anything happen even though you click Skill X and the skill starts its recharge, its FPS.

hard to say, its entirly dependant your Machine and Net connection. I currently Sit on around 50-200 Ping Average and around 30-40 Fps in towns, 20 in Abyss town cause of heavy player count.

Ping lag is caused by your internet (data taking a while to be transferred.) The lower the better~
You can figure out how much ping you have by typing /ping in-game..
As for FPS, it really depends. I run 40-90 FPS at max settings and 2x AA, but it goes down to 5-20 FPS during forts.
Most people lag because of FPS lag ~~
