One of the balaur combines is 470. I thought it was skins... (450 horn, 460 scale, 470 skin).
Well, I know one of them is 470, not sure if it's scale or skin. But yea, gotta do that to 499.

If I were you, I'd buy everything I can right now. Because prices tend to go up, not down, and I don't expect a drop in price for months. 100k and increasing on suthran, and it's on the rise everywhere else, I hear. Horns and Scales were at 40k a week ago, now they're at 100k+, too. They aren't as usefull as skins for leveling, but crafters want them to make balaur weapons with the skins they have.

As I (and presumably you) will be making a weapon with my crafting - you'll be crafting alot of whites and greens to do so. You may as well do those while you can get XP from them and not blow your money on balic mats which will just be a money sink in the end.
This will only benefit some people - I know sword is 420ish so it won't work but the white and green PA at 449 which could take you all the way to 489. I just figure you may as well since your going to have to do it anyways.

Your way will be a bit cheaper, and it will take longer, and I see the main obstacle as being not money, but the time needed to get XX heliotrope cristals and leveling above 500 to reduce the odds of failing a craft.
That's why I'm using all of my money in balaur mats now (and designs, but finding them is a biatch), and I'll worry about drenite, kinahs and flux in the 18-24 days it'll take me to craft 18 heliotrope cristals.

tbh, I feel like people worried about the crystals are seriously underestimating just how difficult it is to get to the point of needing them in the first place (that is, a gold weapon). Also remember that Alchemists can create red crystals, and mastering alchemy is considerably easier than weaponsmithing. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a lot of alchemists selling their crystals.
If I can create a gold weapon every 18 days, I think I'm doing pretty nyerkin good. nyerk in this game takes forever =/

What you said made no sense. You want to save money for when you hit 500 at which point you'll need to start crafting the whites and the greens which would have given you XP had you not bought balaur mats. You're pretty much pissing money away on buying balaur mats since you'll need to craft the whites ANYWAYS. Plus with the whites and greens, you can vendor the non-procs. So far I've been able to keep each white I craft to about 1.4mill and the non-procs vendor for 700k. I've seen the balaur skins going for about 500k each lately
While yes this is more expensive than leveling with balaur mats - its what you will have to do eventually anyways. Also take a look at how many fluxes are on the broker for the new weapons - not to many at all. Money only goes so far if there isn't an adequate amount of fluxes on the broker when your ready to start crafting your whites.
Edit: I figured I should also mention that although you can only buy one powder per day - you can just buy powders while your getting your crafting up to 500 the way I've stated and then craft all the crystals once you get to master.

His point was that his goal is to reach 500 as soon as possible so that he can start leveling up from making crystals. If you're not aware, after 500 skill, 400-499 designs will no longer level you up. Also, you can only make crystals once per day.
I'm pretty much doing the same thing; rushing to get to 500 skill so that I can start making my daily crystals and continuing to skill up.

Read my edit. You were obviously posting this when I edited my post :P but just to reiterate my edit - the time limit isn't on the CRAFTING of the crystals - its on buying the powder. Therefore you should be buying the powder everyday while leveling up your WS to 500.

Where can you confirm this? I heard there was also a 24 hour wait on the crafting itself.
Of course, I suppose it doesn't hurt to stock up, since you're gonna use them anyway.

I've been told that the only time limit is on the buying - not on the crafting. However I cannot confirm this first hand.

Rasher, yes, I did say that doing it that way wasn't the most cost-efficient one. But, by the time you get to 500, I'll probably be at 502-505, with very low chances of failing a craft and losing, like, 80 millions, while you'll have signifiant chances of losing that.

I confirm there is a timer on the craft for the crystals : 24 hours. So the only interest of buying powder before you reach the master rank is, to have some spare in the eventuallity of the 300 per day per server is reached.
